They could have had both screens at 60fps and still had better graphics than that. The real reason is probably that they rushed the game.

Splatoon's graphics were never bad. People thought it was a rushed game due to quantity of content. And upon release that was still a valid complaint. Star fox u on the other hand looks nowhere near splatoon. People who compare the game to gamecube level graphics are obviously off. That being said, star fox u looking like a 2008 game in 2015 is a huge dissappointment with regards to graphics. There have been many past games to reach 60 fps without having to compromise graphics, and even if they did compromise graphics, it wouldn't be by an entire generation! Unless of course they wanted to make the game in a short time frame. Again, graphics don't make or break a game. Neither does story or characters or artstyle. But they do affect the game's immersion. In this case, Nintendo seems to be killing star fox's graphics for gamepad motion control (optional and in many eyes, a gimmick). This also doesn't entitle Miyamoto to say "every other game looks the same, star fox's graphics are meant to look unique" |
Miyamoto didn´t say "every other game looks the same", He said A LOT of games looks the same, and is totally true, there are a ton of realistic games that look the same, but of course there are some others that look realist and unique at the same time.

So you don't have a transcript? The link you provided contains no such thing. You claim that "context is everything" so do you have a transcript of said context? By the way, Miyamoto was quoted as saying "a lot", not "most". There's a difference. |
Really?! You have me look for a source and now you want me to look for an interview in text?
I'm gonna stop here because I have better things to do.
I will say that I have already posted more context for this scenerio than your original comment (it's relation to starfox for example).
By the way, regardless of whether he said "a lot" of "most," point is he was making a huge generalization about realistic looking games of various genres

If he was gonna make such a bold accusation about realistic games (whether it's for alot, most, or all realistic games), than I would at least want him to echo what you said "there are some others that look realistic and unique at the same time." However he didn't, and it's really sad given his influence in the gaming world to see him make a bold generalization. Especially if it's to solely to promote his game.

Yes, it is. Want proof? Try to visualize a lot of in store ads and box art for games without the title. Chances are you probably couldn't distinguish a lot of games from each other. Chances are more than half of the characters you see will consist of caucasian males in their 30's or 40's with dark hair and a 5 o' clock shadow. You might occassionally see this protagonist standing with the token black guy and the token female. A lot of these ads are high in contrast and might consist of looking really orange, really blue, or wiith washed out colors. By comparison, try doing the same thing with Splatoon or Yoshi's Wooly World. There aren't many games out there that look like those or have those kinds of characters.
Just recently, I bought a book that was an encyclopedia of Capcom characters. The book came out 2 years ago for Capcom's 30th anniversary. There's something that book said that explains what is wrong with character designs, graphics, advertising and everything that the industry does now. The book explained that back in the early arcade days, the developers had just a few seconds to explain a character's entire story, meaning that the visual style of that character meant everything since they didn't have cutscenes to tell a story with. The result we got were very iconic characters who are still remembered today. Ironically enough, you could tell there was a dropoff point in Capcom's history, just by comparing their character from the early days to those from the early 2010's.
As for wanting 60fps on both the Gamepad and screen, since the game heavily uses the Gamepad, the developers probably felt that was very important. They also deliberately chose gameplay over the visual style. After all, it is much easier to make a game with great graphics than it is to make a game that has to maintain a constant 60fps on two screens at once. So laziness wasn't an excuse here.

OMG your right, all these covers look the same I can't tell which game is which!!! Seriously wtf lmao.

No, I asked you for a transcript from the beginning of our exchange. My request did not change.

No trasncript though despite your claim that Miyamoto made his statement without any prompting from press.

And my point is Miyamoto's quote is so vague and barren and does not mention any examples. It's unfair for people to start filling in the gaps as to what Miyamoto meant. It's equivalent to me saying: "a lot of games are so violent that they all look the same" and having people reply with "GTA 5 is nothing like Gears of War, how dare you!?"
I never mentioned either of these games. How about people ask for clarification before providing their input? Is that too much to ask?
I'm very thankful for the 60fps, but graphics could have definitely been better! It started out as Wii game, so I can't say I'm too surprised either.

My issue is that the second screen is unnecessary to begin with.
In a game like Star Fox, the first person perspective is a nice luxury but to make it viable as a all the time means you are probably limiting how the enemies are going to come at you on the screen. In the end I hope this dual screen perspective thing they are trying to push along side the different modes with the walker, G-wing and drone robot don't make this another Assault type experiment that takes away from the core of Star Fox game play at its best, action.

And here we have a healthy Nintendo fan asking for a better Nintendo ladies and gentleman. The people that just accepts anything and everything that comes from them, good or bad are just damaging the company.
