Forums - Gaming - The first Splatoon clone is a fact

Tell me, what exactly is Splatoon doing that's so "new" or "innovative" ...

It's a new IP developed by Nintendo.

That because it does. You're just saying because it has turf wars, it means it has unoriginal mechanics. What game besides Splatoon allows you to become a squid and swim in ink?

You mean the dashing ?

The transforming into a squid thing only applies to Splatoon's case and it's a cosmetic change, not a functional one ...

There are games out there like GTA V with an invincibility mechanic that also features dashing/strafing or sprinting so what exactly is Splatoon that's doing so new in that department and games devoiding you of a hitbox is not entirely new either ...

Tell me, what exactly is Splatoon doing that's so "new" or "innovative" ...

What are you talking about? Seriously, that's not what I'm talking about at all...

He/She can't be reasoned with. When one makes a statement that turning into a squid the game equals becoming invincible/devoiding you of a hitbox, it becomes relatively clear that individuals such as this don't know what they are talking about and they have decided to gather information, as superficially as possible, rather than legitmately make an argument. Not worth your time tbh. :/

What if sony released a competive online game about covering stuff in paint and called it "unfinished swan battle mode" would that be a clone? :D

hmm... not really the best company to use as an example :P

First off, turf wars didn't even come from Color Wars.. Second off, so what if they both have similar mechanics? People don't call Duke Nukem 3D a rip-off of Doom just because they're shooters that have a lot of enemies swarming you.  And third off, how would Nintendo ever have watched an obscure cancelled indie Xbox game?

That's exactly the attitude that everyone should have in this thread ...

The same should apply between that user generated level and Splatoon

My point wasn't to show off that Splatoon was a clone of Color Wars, only to show that it's not original ...

Since the OP pulled a fast one to deny that I felt compelled to show otherwise how naive it is to point fingers about originality ...

Take a look at the Splatoon map Arowana Mall. There's a difference between cloning/copying and taking inspiration from something. This however is shameless cloning.

I wouldn't have made this thread if it wasn't for that official tweet btw.

You guys.. you guys. Calm down.

No one is saying Splatoon didn't copy anything. It copied the idea of color wars, essentially. However, it was far from a direct rip off.

This from Disney, is an exact ripoff. Even the map is Arowana Mall.

You're saying the Nintendo developers saw Color Wars and decided to make a game based around it? Where's your source?

You do realize that farming, for example, was invented by people across the world independently from each other, right? The people in South America didn't copy it from the people living in the Fertile Crescent.

I'll just ignore him from now on.

I'd never thought to see Nintendo fans so upset about a meaningless thing. Makes you think.

I'm not upset by this Disney Infinity clone, I find it funny, I'm upset that people still believe Splatoon copied Color Wars besides ample evidence indicating otherwise.

Where in my OP do I sound upset? A smiley indicates my amusement.

Splatoon was in fact, a clone from an Xbox cancelled game so...

Unless you can prove Splatoon devs were actually exposed to Color Wars prior to their developing of Splatoon, your claim that Splatoon is a clone of Color Wars is nonsense.

If we take a look at video statistics, I'd readily put money on Splatoon devs not having ever even heard of Color Wars. As a matter of fact, it would seem Splatoon is the reason anyone even knows about Color Wars.

Many things do nowadays.

Wasnt there an Xbox 360 game like that before Splatoon was even a thing?

No. Color Wars was never released as far as I know.

First, Lets make sure that

https://infinity.disney.com/en-ca/profile/C3YEWG7PltSqnYt9Luz5Dg

This user isn't just pretending to be part of 'Disney Infinity' development team.

Most of you who made the comment should watch the following videos.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeswYJgf5mM&list=PLtHP6qx8VF7dPql3ll1To4i6vEIPt0kV5&index=1

This discussion is currently going nowhere thanks to aggressive languages used by thread creator made everyone who had disdain for whatever came out and start attacking the point that wasn't made.

The point is - Is this a clone of Splatoon?

Is it copies one of the content? - Yes. Arowana Mall
Is it called by completely unrelated name that suggest other game? - Yes. In no other context this should be called Squid Wars.
Is it made by Disney Infinity developer? - We don't know if 'Disney Infinity Team' is actual developer or just person with that nickname.
Did Disney officially endorsed this? - Yes, they did.
=Good chance of being an official clone (Or Parody) made by Infinity Developer, but can't be confirmed.

For other discussion.

Did anyone even actually knows how Color Wars actually plays? - I'm going to guess No. Since it was never released.
Did someone who knows denied claim of copy? - Yes, apparently.

Did anyone had any interest in this game before Splatoon? - Based on listed statistic, no.

Could this game influenced development of Splatoon? - Probably not. Nintendo Japan apparently had Water gun game that probably became the base frame of Splatoon instead.

And lets talk about innovation.

Is Paint Ball Gun or Turf War a new concept? - No, it is not.
Is shooting people with Gun a new concept? - No, it is not.
Is Wolfenstein 3D innovative? - No, apparently not.

Can we go back to more substantive discussion like - how does imitation made by creative tool impact the market or its audience?

Are they being serious with that name?
