If Sony can sustain that though October then MS are going to struggle to come anywhere near closing the gap as much as last year. Sony might even pinch October at this rate and November is likely to go to Sony anyway.

I don't think so, not an across the board temporary price cut like last year. They learned that lesson with the new year collapse in sales. It'll either be a permanent price cut, or just a whole bunch of special deals, special bundles, retailer gift cards, all the holiday season specials but perhaps a bit more special than usual. There is just no way they are going to bring out a "here's a $50 price cut that will only last until 1 January 2016" they're never going to try that on again.
I guess it shouldn't be a surprise that the Forza bundle is the top bundle for XB one since it is a special console. But it is good for Forza's exposure in the USA. Maybe they can attract a few more people to the franchise, even if it's mostly just expanding the horizons (see what I did there?) of the main Xbox fanbase.
