And Nintendo was of course entirely powerless and couldn't stop them from doing it, right?

Stop them from deliver the dlc that they want for a game that they developed and has already been out for a whole year being a complete sucess? They can release the dlc they want, Nintendo probably only tested the quality of the amiibo itself to see if was pretty enough to be an amiibo, but they don´t have to stop them from releasing the dlc they want.

Oh of course they don't have to, but they have the power to, which means they are at least partly responsible for this, which is what I said in the beginning.

And of course Nintendo is going to check the content of the DLC, what if it unlocked something inappropriate that they didn't want to be associated with their brand?

But it is legit to lock that content to begin with, I think that Nintendo would never have co-op as dlc but that doesn´t mean that is not legit once you have already delivered big time with your game a year ago, so I don´t see nothing hurting their brand here.

A multi-billion dollar company has better things to do than dictate what a small indie dev should do. I'm sure there were some guidelines, but it's not like Nintendo had any sort of creative control.

Nintendo agreed to an amiibo, nothing less, nothing more. They're not even producing or distributing them, that should tell you enough. You want Nintendo to bark orders at indie devs to scare them away? So tell me, are Sony or MS responsible for every exclusive content/game on their consoles?

Besides, people clearly thought this game was worth the purchase before this amiibo was unveiled, so I don't even see the problem. This isn't something they deliberatly held back on when the game first launched.

Lol, you think Sony and MS are not responsible for the exclusive content on their consoles? As long as we're not talking about games that are made exclusive without Sony/MS actually being involved in that decision (smaller japanese PS exclusives for instance) of course they are responsible.

In this case Nintendo is directly involved due to them licensing out the Amiibo.

Ah, so we've got Sony to blame for that awful Godzilla game, apparently. And no, every exclusive game/content counts, apparently, because of licensing fees. ;) What do you think royalties are?

Still better than money-hatting exclusive content in multi-platform games.

Do you seriously believe that being a third party getting to create an Amiibo is as easy paying the licensing fees to Nintendo? This is a collaboration between Nintendo and Yacht Club games, according to Nintendo themselves:

"...When we started collaborating (with Yacht Club Games) we were like, 'What's one thing that Nintendo can do that nobody could ever do?' and the natural fit was amiibo."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6hteiJaQ14 (starting around 4:30)

And in a situation like that there's definitely responsibility on Nintendos part as well. So this is not just like Yacht Club doing all this on their own and Nintendo just licensing out the Amiibo name. For a game like Godzilla or that The Letter game on Wii U, which are literally made without any Sony/Nintendo involvement you can't seriously try to put responsibility on the platform holders.

bolded: If by better, you mean not better at all, then sure. Cause this is acutally the exact same shit.

lolol people are complaining about the locked content

When 80% of the people buy amiibos for the figurine alone...

Then why lock content behind that is only detrimental for those that aren't interested in overpriced, overly hard to get DLC? I can assure you that I won't have a chance finding this in my local gamestore.

I'm just saying most people don't really care about the extra stuff this amiibo gives, like pretty much every other amiibo. If this amiibo was never released, there wouldn't be as many people complaining about the content of the game (as evident in another thread where another person was complaining about the slight lack of content in the Nintendo platform; bunch of people told him to suck it up).

I only used my Marth amiibo like...only twice for Smash in the span of a year. But I don't see it as a waste of money as it sits there all kewl on my desk.
