If that were the case, it would specify game data on the patent. It's not, because it isn't.

It wouldn't if the cards aren't just for games, if apps and other software come on them then terms like program 24 and 25 make sense because game data is a program as well so it could be just a broad term for the encryption data and what ever program is on the card.

...

...So then it would just be a regular SD card.

Back to gamepad, no thanks, i'm out.

Maybe the patent is referring to the handheld side of the NX, or maybe the controller is going to have a very small screen. There's no way to know until Nintendo themselves talk about it.

How do you patent that? A common device (games console) and a common information storage medium (SD card). So what's the patent for exactly? There's nothing particularly new about this that would warrant a patent.

A lot of people are wondering the same thing. Hm... Curious.

Wait, does the new Gamepad not have an NFC reader!?

Based on it, more likely to be like what the 3DS uses.

No, because the 3DS uses carts only for games.

I don't understand this at all. Nintendo already uses carts for their handheld games, and said games retail for much less than console games (on disc.)

These handheld games also have much less production budgets than the console games in the same years. Only a fraction of multiplatform games got released on GBA/DS/3DS and home consoles at the same time with the same content... not a very good comparison!

What does production budget have to do with media format? The games are already sold for less because they have lower production costs (which I noted despite using a more expensive media format.) And again, I already disputed your multiplat argument. Nintendo can always reduce licensing fees per game sold by the cost of using carts vs. Blu-Ray (which is miniscule) if third parties aren't willing to take a $.50 cut. In the long term it saves Nintendo money because they don't have to replace games and disc-drives that become unusable(which they do now.)

For the people talking about cart sizes, let's look at previous generations.

GBA, maximum 32mb

DS, 8-512mb (1/4-16x previous gen)

3DS, 128mb-8gb (1/4-16x previous gen)

If NX follows that same pattern than it will have came carts ranging from 2gb to 128gb. 128gb isn't necessary not but maybe in a few years once PS5/XB4 release, Nintendo may need that size carts.

Also some of u are getting too hung up on AAA western 3rd party titles which is something that has never really been a big mover of Nintendo hardware. The primary support will likely be Nintendo published titles, Japanese 3rd parties, indies, family friendly western titles.

The majority of games will probably be 32gb or under.

Read in proper context next time I said to be like not exactly the same.

Only if it is a Cart 1. Cart 2 games like Pokemon and Animal Crossing save and update to the cart as an anti-cheat measure.
