Forums - Nintendo - Why do people think the next Zelda will be on NX?

1. System Seller.
2. Wii U is a commercial failure.

NX needs a flying start to bring confidence that the hardware will be hot and likable. That may bring in some 3rd party support.

Iwata did say NX will obsorb the Wiiu...  This could mean many things but the most likely thing it could mean is that the NX will be able to easily play Wiiu games. So it's possible that it will just be able to play the Wiiu game which would be great for the NX because many people who have held out for a new zelda before buying a wiiu could buy an nx instead.

I think in one way or the other it will be availabe on NX if the NX comes out in 2016.  If it comes out in 2017 then it's possible it will be Wiiu only.

Fact is Nintendo never released a game on 2 different architectures.

Fact is: Nintendo has done many things in the past they never have done before.

  • they had never released a controller with an analog stick before the N64
  • they had never released a dual-screen handheld before the DS
  • they had never used touchscreen input before the DS
  • they had never digital distribution of games before the eShop
  • they had never released a home console with motion controls before the Wii
  • they had never released a home console with a tablet controller before the Wii U
  • they had never released HD games before the Wii U
  • they have never released apps/games for iOS and Android, but they are going to

Shall I go on? Things change! Even for Nintendo.

I don't see why people think either way.

The NX isn't even announced and their really isn't gameplay revealed for the new Zelda game yet.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

Good points, but I am not sure anymore, though I still think it will be Wii U exclusive

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

Truth be told, I hope everyone is wrong, but there hasn't been enough released on either Zelda Wii U or the NX to discount anything.

I mean aside from a gorgeous trailer, a few off screen scenes Zelda Wii U is a bigger ghost then the first build of RE 4 when they had Leon fighting haunted suits of armor. No one knows for certain whether the NX will be a home console, a hybrid or even a super powered successor to Nintendo's handheld line. Nevermind whether or not it will or won't drop in 2016.

1. Skyward Sword shouldn't be the measuring stick. That game underperformed. What Nintendo needs to aim for are games like Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, and they certainly have no chance at competing with these games with a Wii U-only release of the next Zelda.

2. A lot more people are going to think: "Thank god, now I don't have to buy a Wii U to play this game."

3. Sure, Zelda isn't Nintendo's biggest seller, but it's an IP that draws a lot of attention. Nintendo should know that, and if they analyze the Wii properly, then they will realize that the Wii was so successful because it had killer apps for different demographics at the same time. Having Zelda on NX isn't going to hurt Nintendo's chances for success. Quite the opposite, actually.

4. Nintendo doesn't make systems aimed at the casual market. If you want to form any reasonable conclusions, you have to abandon the hardcore vs. casual dichotomy. Your belief that the majority of Nintendo fans owns a Wii U is mindboggling. What about the over 50m people who own a 3DS? Are there only 10m Nintendo fans among them? No, it's much more likely that the majority of Nintendo fans hasn't bought a Wii U and has no intention to do so.

1. It was the last installment. Zelda games never sold that well.

2. Bring one exclusive game to wii u and one game to NX will allow Nintendo to sell 2 system to those people = alot more profit. Your argument is like: Nintendo will bring Zelda Wii U to PC because many people woill think "Thank god, now I don't have to buy a Nintendo console to play this game." Thats not how nintendo handles things.

3. Sure, this might also be right. But still, it is still a risk. Zelda Wii U is for many people the biggest game for wii u and it was promised to them scince years. The wii u Userbase already have hardcore nintendo/zelda fans. Many big Zelda fan played Hyrule warriors which was a big fan service and also many wanted to play Windwaker HD again.

4. 3ds 50 Mio Userbase, Sales on Zelda games are between 1,7 and 3,7 Mio units. Not very impressive. The hardcore nintendo audience which likes zelda is not on the 3ds.

Even if some things would be indicative that Zelda NX would make sense (like the TP perfomace on wii, which was pretty good), there are still all the points in my first topic that would make it unlikely. Overall the "not Nx points" I mentioned are far more then the 2-3 points why it would make sense.

I will revive this thread in one year. We will see who was right.

If the Zelda userbase is not on 3DS, then clearly is not neither on Wii U. Thus, releasing on NX won't harm anyone.

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Zelda: Twilight Princess probably sold double or even triple the amount it would have had Nintendo left it on the GameCube by virtue of making a Wii version.

And no, you're not a special snowflake if you're arguing Zelda U shouldn't be on NX. There were plenty of GameCube fans on the internet who were pissed about Twilight Princess being re-positioned as basically a Wii launch title back in 2005/06 too. "You promised us realistic Zelda since Spaceworld 2000! Not that crappy cell-shaded one! Now you're moving it to Wii! F*ck you Nintendo, I'll never support you again!!!". Blah, blah, blah.

Those people were wrong. And they all ended up buying a Wii anyway. Simple as that.

Beyond that Zelda U is fairly likely to be the most expensive game Nintendo has ever made. Ambitious, big open world HD adventure game with a 4+ year development cycle? Yeah, don't see Nintendo leaving that on the Wii U to sell half the copies it would otherwise just so a vocal MINORITY on the internet needs to have their feelings validated.

This is a business. And like Twilight Princess, dual releasing the next Zelda on both the Wii U and NX launch window is 100% the correct business move.

And people knew nothing about NX but stated that NX will be a console so Zelda U would come to it

Sometime I laughing hard more than I should be

This.

The notion that they're going to just leave all that extra money on the table by leaving Zelda U on a dead console is ridiculous. And the NX needs a strong launch to make up for the WiiU's failure in the market place. Making it cross gen would solve both issues at once.
