Ruler said:

- no official numbers from NPD or anything else

- the game wasnt popular and it isnt right now. Can anyone still remember this game for people who havent bought it?

- the launch was butchered

- Vgchartz tracks its at 1.5 Million

Digitally on PSN store:

- #2 in January (only 3 days, #1 was Resident Evil at $20 and 11 days of sales)  http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/02/09/playstation-store-januarys-top-sellers/

- #1 in February (ahead of Evolve and The Order)  http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/03/12/playstation-store-february-2015s-top-sellers/

- still charting in March at #18  http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/04/13/playstation-store-march-2015s-top-sellers/

- Opened at #1 in UK physically end of February, stayed at #1 next week, then dropped to #2 behind GTA the following week. All in all spent 6 consecutive weeks in Top 10    http://www.chart-track.co.uk/index.jsp?c=p%2Fsoftware%2Fuk%2Farchive%2Findex_test.jsp&ct=110015&arch=t&lyr=2015&year=2015&week=9

January NPD #1 - http://venturebeat.com/2015/02/12/january-2015-npd-ps4-wins/

February NPD #3 - http://venturebeat.com/2015/03/12/february-2014-npd-ps4-3ds/

1.2  million players in the first week  - http://www.gamespot.com/articles/dying-light-nets-1-2-million-players-in-first-week/1100-6425072/

I'd say it was popular. I'd say a lot of peopleplayed it. I'd say it still is popular, with many mods and expansions releasing regularly. Launch was fine, no glitches or bugs, game was perfectly playable.

game was pretty fun. hate all you want but it doesnt change the fact that Dying Light sold 5 million units, and it was pretty popular.

The only thing that we should learn from this is that VGC should stop posting numbers that are based on nothing. I'd prefer a comprehensive archive of actual numbers.

To be fair to VGC their numbers are at least a month behind, or is it more than that now? And is missing digital, which will be way higher for this game than for most other games. And of course I doubt there has been any adjustments recently.

The problem is that we get numbers for every game. We have numbers that are based on Media Create, GfK, NPD leaks etc., but other numbers have no base at all (not just new numbers, even old numbers). Uninformed users just see the numbers and can't see what their source is.

Wait for official numbers

They ARE official numbers. Doesn't get any more official than directly from the devs...

no, they arent the ones who are selling their games. Warner brother was, and like i said they could lie

Also, to put things in perspective a bit PSNP has it at 78,000 owners. Which is more than it has for Rocket League at 75,386. Or did Psyonix lie about their 5 million too?

and Bloodborne has 100k owners but sold only 1.37 million so far. You would think that the PS4 version should sell more than Bloodborne if its total of 5 million dont you?

Do i need to ask the same question Ryng_Tolu did in the article? lol

I got 113 people on my friendlist, and 41 of them actually got the game,42 with me. So i belive those numbers.

they got it from steamkeys. CD keys from poland for 10€ probably

This is from PSN,not Steam. I got steam as well, but haven't checked that yet. Dying Light is one of the favourite game of my closest friends,so everything tells me that the game was a success whether you belive it or not.

I am pretty sure it is illegal to lie about official sales figures so you can count on them being true.

So now people are going as far as accusing developers of lying over their own sales? Seriously?

You may hate the game for whatever reason, but it was fucking fantastic. Had a lot of popularity, topped charts in Europe on its physcial release, a month after digital so digital sales would have been way higher than usual as well. And it even did well in the Japan charts, for a western game at least.

Pretty much this. Not sure why the OP is so adamant about this.
