Forums - Gaming - Remasters of Movies vs Videogames. Why the different treatment?

older Movie comes out in DVD then blue ray, or then in HD, 3D versions = oh cool now i can watch the classics in even better quality.

older Game comes out for a new system = youre lazy, where are the new games? We want new games.

I think the videogame industry has gotten that big where we mimmic the movie industry. Opinions?

I don't think movies have escaped the wrath either. It' usually called double/triple dipping and frowned upon.

Already have. Too much misinformation regarding remasters/remakes taking up dev time. Most remasters are actually outsourced.

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Because movies never get old and it brings for many people Nostalgie but game not

Idk, I see a difference in a movie released before BR having a re-release to take advantage of technology way past its time, versus a "remaster" of a game that came out 1-3 years ago on a previous gen platform.

If Sony were remastering PS1/2 games, it would be a different story for me.

Also, whether it's true or not, people make the assumption that Sony releasing God of War 3 Remastered meant development time and support were taken off other games. And the library of a game console is a fraction of the library of movies. If I want a new game and see a bunch of remasters, that sucks. If I want a new BR to watch, there is no end to the stuff I have never seen. Also, price.

Movies taking advantage of new technology opens up a completely new experience. Same with music releasing on better formats and/or being remastered. What do you really gain from playing through the Uncharted franchise again on PS4? A resolution boost and a higher frame rate. Or Halo MCC for that matter.

I don't understand this either. As someone that never had the money as a kid to get the movies I wanted, I am extremely happy that I can get them all in HD on PlayStation Video. Hell, I have even replaced most of the 50 odd Blu-ray movies I had, because I don't want any phyical media in my home.

I feel the same way about games. I didn't have a lot of money from PS1 - PS3. So a lot of these remasters are giving me an opertunity to play games for the first time. Then there is the phyical media factor. I want to get rid of my PS3 games. So when I see one remastered or up on PS Now, I get it or know there is a place I can always go to if I want it, and I sell off my BD copy.

In every form of media, it is great to see content remasted. The better tech makes things more easy on the eyes, it makes life more convenient, and it brings new life to things, so a new generation can enjoy them on the new hot device.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

Very different situations. Having said that I think there is too much criticism of the remastering thing. Some remastering is fine, but it needs to not slow down the flow of new games.

Price? Almost unable to compare them, IMO.

You can see a movie in the cinema 3 times, buy the DVD and still have money left over compared to a game.

games = 60$/€ +

movies = 15-20$/€

Totally different purchase decision. The more you pay, the more value you must see to justify the investment.
