I wonder if he's lying though...
I would have wished you included your own thoughts on the article because the way it's written does look like an Ad. There's nothing wrong with the article, it is simply stating facts. Nowhere does it says that people should buy an XBone over a PS4 or return their PS4 and buy XBones instead. It simply says this is the best time to buy an XBone.
“Simple minds have always confused great honesty with great rudeness.” - Sherlock Holmes, Elementary (2013).
"Did you guys expected some actual rational fact-based reasoning? ...you should already know I'm all about BS and fraudulence." - FunFan, VGchartz (2016)
Wouldn't the time be when the games are actually coming out and you can buy the bundle? Now is the worst time to buy.

It's not because it's positive, it's because it's not objective. It reads as an attempt to persuade, not inform. As such, I'd rather see this clearly labled as an editorial.
This line, for instance:
"Microsoft cemented it last week at Gamescom: you should really own an Xbox One if you give a hoot about high-quality console gaming."
It falls into lecturing the consumer based on the writer's opinion of someone who cares about gaming, even to the point of ignoring financial constraints.
I don't really have any strong feelings about this either way but I do think the writer could do with a bit more research into how this type of article is normally phrased. For example, a headline you often see for this type of article would be, "Why now might be a good time to buy an Xbox One." A seemingly small difference, perhaps, but it goes from banging the reader over the head with the writer's opinion to being helpful and informative.

Did you read the article? It's a vomit inducing, corporate worshipping piece of propaganda, no self respecting journalist would be able to look in the mirror after writing a piece of filth like this. This is not journalism, this is marketing, nothing more.
Like I said, my problem here isn't the premise, if the article was called something like "The Xbox One might be the console to get this christmas season" and was in general more objective and less blinded by hype (cause, while this article might not make you think that way, aside from one or two things nothing he's talking about in here is actually out and has really been fully tested by the author), it would be fine. I mean he even goes so far as to circlejerk about early access, a system that is in general regarded negatively (I personally hate it, but that's neither here nor there).
Lines like this are not something a journalist should write (about a game he didn't play I might add), without being paid by the company to do it:
"But the bigger hit could be the exclusive-to-console-for-a-year Rise of the Tomb Raider, bringing back that classic video game adventure and exploration, wrapped in a budget to make Midas wince. You shouldn’t wait to buy new Tomb Raider on a different format a year later. We’ll have all moved on. Get that gold while you can. This is why you play triple-A."

I did include my thoughts, just not in the OP. Wouldn't want people thinking what I've got to say about it is a part of the article or anything. Besides it could alter the tone of the thread to be more positive/negative, whether inadvertently or intentionally, by putting someones personal thoughts on it in a prominent position in the OP. I'd much rather people just see the article in its intended way and comment accordingly. |
Same reason why I never post my thoughts in the OP of anything that I post. If I have something to say I will reply.
Never going to support Microsoft after what they tried to pull at the start of the gen.

Even if now's the right time, that technically means that this holiday is actually the right time.
