Forums - Gaming - Are Video Game Forums Radicalizing?

I'm open-minded. It's just that any opinion that doesn't match mine is clearly wrong and that person needs to be shut down.

This would be a boring place if every chirp resulted in a ban. That's why I carry a thesaurus with me at all times.

I appreciate your support. Thank you for defending me against a bully.

Glad to have helped!

Meh, I have always been a pretty open minded person. I think I may have been a bit more biased on different things when I first started here, but I have mellowed quite a bit during my time here. Of course, that probably has a lot more to do with my actions in real life then my posting on here...

I agree, you've become more likeable. I still remember your days of flamebaiting very well, because they mark the starting point for a series of moderations that haunt me to this day. It all began with you, gergroy. My grudge against you will last until I am back down to warnings again.

Lol, I still don't see how saying that I like EA is flamebaiting...

Yes

I've become far more open-minded since joining this site but it's probably due to growing up as well.

No, they don't change people. They do often create echo chambers though where a lot of people sit in a circlejerk confirming each others views. That tends to lead to extreme behaviour when they're then confronted with dissenters.

I actually became more moderate, lol.

I have at times become more pro-Nintendo since I got here, defended them without thinking why. So yeah, there was a period where I was "radicalised", but that was a rather short period and I'm trying to be critical of them when its deserved. I actually think I'm MORE critical of Nintendo now than I was before, so maybe that's another sort of radicalisation? ^^

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Hmm. Honestly, I don't think gaming forums really radicalize many people because gaming is more about preferences and liking something or not versus believing in an idea. With that being said, I think that people had an extreme opinion or not on gaming before they entered a gaming site.

Forums about politics or religion is different because it's based entirely on believing in an idea which a person can grow more into believing in something or turn away from it.

Conversing with others here, I found some games and books that are interesting. I like to try new things (that's a part of my personality) so my tastes in games and genres is constantly growing. My gaming preferences hasn't changed much. I'm willing to play more indies now versus before.
