Forums - Nintendo - Splatoon is a very serious contender for my game of generation so far

Not even a top 5 contender for goty for me... let alone gotg. It is a unique game, I give it that, but it launched with only 5 maps and 2 game modes, no voice chat, no party system, the only local competitive mode is a 1v1 balloon popping mode and a 4-5 hour singleplayer campaign for 60 euros. Even with a relatively small install base (compared to games like CoD or Destiny) it had terrible server issues with frequent disconnects on rush hours. The game is based on teamwork but gives you no means of communicating with other players.
Don't get me wrong it is a really fun game and very addictive... but so is rocket league like the guy above me said. It is 39th in metacritic for wii u games and doesn't have a much better user score. If it really was the gotg for ppl the wii u would be doing a lot better now.

sorry but the game was 40 euro, so u probl didnt even bought or  play it.

I don't think GOTG should have an Asterisk of If you have connection to download more content because there isn't enough on disc*

I know we're in an internet age now but if you back and want to play the GOTG for each generation long after the servers are shut down (they already are for wii at that sold 100million units, can't imagine Wii U servers will be on for that long) you'd be disappointed in what you find.

You could go back and play GTA V/TLOU/Fallout 3 or any other contenders for GOTG and see why.

GTA V was the same, you had to download the multiplayer mode as a patch 2 weeks after release.

To be honest all your mentioned games are far from game of the gen for me. GTA V was worse then San Andreas, TLOU is a great game but not GOTG, I personal dont like bethesta rogs so cant say to much about Fallout 3.

Last gen GOTG was probl LOL (which is personal never played). For me it was Starcraft 2.

Wii Server were shut down because of Gamespy.

I dont think that is launched with little content is important, because 2 months later we have almost double of that content.
Also game in Europe is 40 euros, not 60.

It is a contender, lets wait and see how long it would have these type of releases and if there are a ton of gamers are still playing with Splatoon by holiday 2016. I think Nintendo would keep on adding content, I hope.

With regard to other contenders - some say Bloodbourne, but several gamers I know prefer TW3 over Bloodbourne as GOTY let alone GOTG. They are contenders but I think TW3 has the edge over Bloodbourne.

GTA V is contender for gotg not because of its online, if anything the online is the shoddiest part of gta. Your argument if San Andreas being better would be valid if they came out in the same gen...

I hated fallout 3 but I can't ignore the fan love around it which is why I included it in my list.

And when it comes to TLOU I think being the most awarded game in history allows it to speak for itself so I'll say nothing there xD

It might be a contender, but I doubt it will win. It isn't my favourite, either.

I feel like I'm one of the only people who bought Splatoon and isn't in love with it :P
My current game of the generation is still Fire Emblem: Awakening

Wii U NNID:  CWegzz
3DS Friend Code:  4210-5277-5484

Game of the generation? No chance imo.

You are not Splatoon player Dr.Vita. :)

Game of the generation?... well.... I don´t think that we will have a single "game of the generation" after all.

Anyway, Splatoon sure is unique, it´s been a long time since we last saw a new franchise with such addictive gameplay. Online battles are endless fun and even the 1-player mode is quite good, albeith a little short.
