Forums - Nintendo - Splatoon is a very serious contender for my game of generation so far

Every critic would seem to agree with me. Gta5 remaster is still the best reviewed game this gen. Lol.

You mean the critics that get paid advertisement money from the same game publishers they're reviewing games on? Yeah, as a historian that would be a source I'd throw in the garbage bin right away.

Have you ever met a person that likes GTA IV? I know I haven't. And that game has 98% on metacritic or something lol.

You say the people here should play other games than just Nintendo, perhaps you should play something other than violent open world games.

Oh I didn't know you were against violence. I'm sorry. Too bad for you as you're missing out on probably 90% of games.

I'm actually very unbiased. I do play Nintendo games. That way I can form an opinion that isn't biased unlike yourself. And I play all types of games. So you didn't really have an argument there.

I don't mind violent games, I just play more than that. Your taste is incredibly unvaried. You're unbiased? Yet you won't pay for Nintendo games, lol...

People who claim they're unbiased are probably the most biased.

I haven't played it, so keep my legitimacy in check, but the story mode looks decent at best and the online is lacking in a lot of crucial content that compromise the games longevity. I mean, isn't there only 1 game mode and like 3 weapons? And isn't the level cap like 20? Game of the Gen should be a game that has legs throughout the gen and is one that, no matter how deep we get into the gen, people still go back and play it. I can't see Splatoon being played in 2 years. Even if they update it with additional content I really see this as a temporary Wii U game.

Everything bolded is wrong.

Story mode quality is entirely subjective, and even with all the updates, Splatoon isn't up to the amount of content of other competitive shooters.

While his number of modes and weapons are wrong, it's largley Nintendo's fault for having a release schedule to unlock content saved on disc.

Yeah, it's subjective and that's why I think that statement isn't correct.

I don't understand how those two relate at all. The numbers were factually wrong. Whether or not it was wrong of Nintendo to release the content over time is irrelevant to what he was stating, which was there is only 1 game mode and 3 weapons.

Official Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Thread

The mistake most people are making when commenting in this thread is going under the assumption that OP thinks it will be GOTG. OP clearly states that he would put it in his personal GOTG list. Saying "no" to that is misunderstanding the point of the thread. OP simply wants other people who have played the game to share if they had any similar experiences, not if they think it would be nominated for GOTG.

The only thing I would say is that the title is misleading in that way, but otherwise the OP makes it very clear what he means.

And yet most of the people on who saying that isn't even on GOTY contender didn't play Splatoon at all.

A game with metacritic of 81 being game of generation?

Are you serious?

Not in my book, the fact that splatoon is not universally accepted by at least 90% of reviewers is not game of the generation material. Games adored by the vast majority like bayonetta 2, smash bros wii u, and blood borne are way better contestants for game of the generation, and even they fall short of previous contenders such as uncharted 2, mario galaxy, ocarina of time, gta v, metroid prime, etc.

We all know that huge impact on reviewers had initial lack of content, 2 months after release we have double of that content.

CoD doesn't have more content. It might have 12 modes or something, but most of them are unoriginal or practically the same with only small differences.

5 unique and creative multiplayer modes (one which is local multiplayer only and it sucks :p), 10 multiplayer maps that are drastically different from each other (with more to come in the future) a fun singleplayer campaign that offers a different experience from the multiplayer, splat fest events that bring the community together and 4 squid themed retro arcade games is more than enough content.

The only mode I enjoy in CoD games is co-op zombies... The rest is so boring and generic to me (zombies are generic too, but at least it's fun).

Well, I haven't played Splatoon, nor have I played many other games that people claim are great, but I still think that it's way too early to talk about GOTG, regardless of platform or subjective opinions.
The PS4 and One have only been out around 20-21 months and even the Wii U is still not three years old, there is likely to be dozens of great games that could contend for GOTG.

All that aside though; I find it odd that OP and many others are saying that you don't have a right to say that Splatoon isn't worthy unless you've played it yourself, and then go on to disregard other titles they themselves haven't played. I also always enjoy the "if you're not on board with my choices, you must have poor taste" that has persisted on this site for nearly a decade now (that goes for everyone).

In short; this thread seems weird at best, I don't understand its point at all, to be honest. Personally, I think my GOTG hasn't released yet.
How about we have this topic again when the generation is actually over, or at least very nearly so?

I think you know what you were getting yourself into, OP.

I think OP made things very clear.

For me this game is so good (so fresh, unique, innovative, very fun and addictive game that offers such a different experience and fun that I can't compared to any other game), that I personally consider it for very serious contender for game of generation so far, and I just wanted to know does people that played Splatoon have similar thoughts.
