Windows10 is no "resource hog", it should run better on an older PC (or slower PCs like netbooks and tablets) than Windows 8/8.1 which already performed better than Windows7 and Vista on these slower machines. The installation size of Windows 10 has again been optimized.

After the upgrade of my BayTrail-tablet (2GB RAM) from W8.1 to Win10 the new GUI feels snappy and well thought-out, but the overall performance is probably the same. The installation size is slimmer, so the additional 4 GB flash memory available for programs / data are welcome.

This along with adds on games like solitaire are probably the reasons Windows 10 was free. Anyways, it's not like very many people use DVD's anymore. I know I don't.

MS needs more Money, i wouldnt support Windows 10 at all. Its so uncessary to switch to a new windows in the first place
