Forums - Microsoft - The Windows 10 DVD Player app is now in the Windows Store for $14.99

Why, won't my current autoplay dvd feature not work anymore when I upgrade to windows 10?
What is this for?

I don't even know what dvd player software I have, it just starts when I pop in a dvd.

That function will be stripped once you upgrade. You will have to download this app or another DVD 📀 app to play DVDs. If you currently own Windows 7 or 8.1 media center, then you can get this for free.

Agreed, always found MPC to be vastly superior to VLC (and everything else). Simple and with fantastic codecs and compatability and it doesn't require frequent updates to function properly.

The *reason* it is not *free* any longer is because MS got tired of paying licensing fees to license MPEG. They technically had to pay a fee for every copy of the OS they sold.

I'm not trying to justify this is in any way. I'm still mad media center is gone... I will be keeping Windows 8.1 on my HTPC...

Well, that pretty much sums up the open source world. I hope MS figures it out before the competition divides the PC market.

you have to pay and it still doesnt even support blu rays? lol

Windows 8 doesn't have native DVD playback either.

This is good. Instead of MS's crappy player, download VLC or something else.
