Forums - Microsoft - Phil Spencer says Xbox first party should be pushing harder for diversity in genre & mechanics

Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has said Microsoft should be "pushing harder" for more genre diversity among its first-party Xbox One titles.

Microsoft's Gamescom showing featured upcoming exclusives such as Scalebound, Quantum Break, and Crackdown, all of which follow the third-person action framework.

"More diversity in terms of genre and mechanics, I think it's a great thing for this industry to push," he said. "So yes, you do find a lot of third-party action games from us, and I do think we should be pushing harder on genre and control."

If they get more Quantum break/Scalebound like exclusives that DONT come to PC, my likelyhood of eventually buying one of those badboys rises exponentially.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

In other words:

Xbox is looking for more ways to reinvent FPS and TPS games.

I think he understands that diversity is partially what makes Playstation popular and that they'll struggle to compete with the Playstation brand outside North America unless they address that.

It's Phil Spencer not Don Mattrick.

Other than Scalebound, all their other big exclusives are shooters. So not not a lot of diversity...

agreed but i think they should extend diversity to diversity in athethic.   sony is better here.  ms has gotten better but they still has a lot of "dudebro" athetics in their library.  sony does a pretty good job changing things up when you compared uncharted to dreams or the order to ratchet and clank or bloodborne to littleBIGplanet or driveclub to infamous or killzone to knack or until dawn to TLG.

I was hoping to see some of that at Gamescom.

JRPGs Phil, that's the only way I buy the system. Lost Odyssey 2.
