Having cameras and monitoring the time their employees take during breaks isn't surprising nor something that extraordinary. The email thing is odd, because I'm quite sure that there must be lost of employees that no longer know their e-mail adress or the e-mail from other co-workers, so their job is harder than it could be, but if they are finewith their employees losing time whenever they want to send e-mails, that's up to them.

Now, publicy announcing which employees have taken a longer than usual break (which we don't know why) to shame them, or mobbing employees to make them resign (which I assume is cheaper that firing them), or the Facebook thing... I don't know which laws have Japan, but in a lot of countries that's not legal.

Well, at least we know how will Konami disappear: it will explode from the inside once their employees leave en masse.

You forgot to add in, makeing them scrub toilets ect.

Because thats every programmers dream.... to find out they currently dont have anything for him to do, and to send him off to scrub toilets.

"Konami developers who aren’t seen as useful are reassigned duties such as security guards, cleaning staff at fitnes clubs, or roles at pachi-slot machine factories. This includes producers who worked on big titles. In 2013, Japanese newspaper Asahi News reported on a former Konami employee who allegedly went from development to working in a Konami pachi-slot factory, which led him into severe depression."

Im pretty sure I would quit my job, if I was hired as a programmer in a gameing studio, but made to scrub toilets instead.

That's what Mobbing / Workplace bullying is about:

Sounds like they purposely being douches, just to make unneeded employees quit, as I'm guessing that's cheaper than firing them. At least I know that's the case in the US. Don't have to worry about paying into unemployment.

None of that sounds all that surprising. Re-assigning them to pachi-slot factories makes sense, but cleaning staff? It reads like a caricature of evil corporation.

Yikes! Employee motivation must be so low there.

Everyone who bash Konami for this on the net will still buy MGS5 like they know nothing about the working conditions of the employees. I won't touch any Konami product, I don't like Konami nor Kojima's diva attitude but the employees are clearly victims here.

So... Suikoden is dead for good then....

Fuck those guys.

Seems like it won't be hard to persuade them to go to another company.

Although the relocation is better than being fired, you can always quit if you don't like it. but some policies seem obtuse.

Seriously. Fuck Konami. They just need to sell their gaming IPs to more deserving people and get the hell out of the industry.

I wouldn't hold my breath for that. Most companies will sit on any IP they own just so they can milk it for money if anyone wants to do anything like them. The only way I see any IP's escaping is if they go out of business.

Heck they are already modifying Castlvanian and using it for the Pachinco(spelling) machines by sexing it up. So to make the story short all you will have is memories of the games you use to love.

Well back on topic it looks like they are hard up on money and doing things to cut expendatures. Unfortantly the employees suffer and if it goes too far there will not be much left of the company then it's gambling arm.

Its also worth mentioning that Konami have bet1 the farm on current legislation going through the Japanese government to legalise casinos and gambling in general. In Japan, Pachinko machines (where credit is exchanged for prizes) and certain types of Lottery and Sport (which are state controlled) is the only gambling available, unlike in for example the USA where gambling is legal in several states (most notably Nevada). Their gambling division is mostly export and their recent focus on it is aimed at Casinos becoming legal in Japan.

Basically if the legislation fails, Konami are going to lose a hell of a lot of their investment in the divison.
