None. They will all be BC.

The Wii was backwards compatible but that didn't stop nintendo from porting over the gamecubes Twilight princess.
The recent popular games. Splatoon, ZeldaU (if released before NX, my guess is the same time), Smash. That's probably it.
Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.
Depending on how you look at it they release definitive versions of Mario Kart and Super Smash every generation. They just call it a sequel.
Nothing wrong with it since you want to be able to play these games on you're current system, but i always find it kind of a grey area.(much like sports games).
I don't know but I know I won't buy one single copy. I have a Wii-U, I own them on Wii-U, I will not buy them again.

The Wii U was BC, and that did stop Nintendo from porting over the Wii's everything. You know, aside from all the digital, untouched, ports still being added to the eshop. An eshop the NX will have full access to at launch.
In other words, the situation with the Wii was completely different.

smash brawl 2008 smash wii u 2014 You can't compare 64 to melee because 64 was such a small game compared to what it is now, it is such a behemoth these days that they can't just have a new game ready within 2 years. Smash 4 was such a huge undertaking and sakurai said the team had to push themselves to their limits. Trust me they're in no hurry to build a new game from scratch anytime soon. |
The N64 version has nothing to do with it, Melee was made in UNDER 2 years. Brawl was made in just over 2 years (27months).
Smash Bros U AND 3DS only began production in spring 2012 and was made in 2 and a half years. If they could focus on 1 version it would have been 2 years or less and been far less stressful. Having made the transition to HD devlopment, the next game should be more comfortable for the team anyway
Ultimately they work on games, thats they're job- the team isn't going to spend the next year on holiday and I bet only a fraction of them are making the DLC as is the norm across game developement. The rest are hard at work (after a brief break I hope) on a new title.
Across Melee, Brawl and U, Smash Bros arrived within 2 years of the new systems arrival. Theres nothing supporting your logic of it arriving in 2020, as I said the games releases are determined by the arrival of new hardware, not a 5 year dev cycle. When there is not new hardware they work on other stuff like kirby and kid icarus.
Also maybe they won't make the next Smash from scratch...

GC ports on Wii were simply ports with another controls, not "definitive editions". We also get some Wii ports on Wii U VC, I can see similar situation on NX too.
