Because as a handheld only it'd make it easier for 3DS owners to migrate over to the new platform, the's no reason the to be no BC on a device that is handheld only. This is why all the handhelds have had BC as migration is much smoother and hardware is a lot closer in compatibility.

And this one might be different, with digital download stores its becoming less and less relavent for backwards compatibility. we know next to nothing about this device. The Wii U is a failure simply put, the reason they didn't put it on it is because it is a huge risk. nx being a handheld, would make it not a huge risk to put the new dragon quest on the system. but once again, neither of us know what it is and there are 0 signs pointing to anything

Digital is not going to replace retail soon it'll probably never fully replace retail, if the NX was solely a handheld it would be guaranteed to have BC at this point which would make having a new version for it redundant especially when they can simply do what N3DS compatible games do and just simply have DQXI run at a higher performance when it detects better hardware. The Wii U isn't UE4 supported because of its architecture that's why it isn't on the console the Wii U userbase is twice the size of the PS4 in Japan and will be for a while possibly until the NX launches so it's nothing to do with risk as the console version itself is the risk.

The real reason for bringing the game to NX is because consoles are niche in Japan where 95% of DQ fans are so it has to be multiplatform to regain costs and seeing as X1 is already dead and buried on arrival over there the only choice is a PS4/NX combo as UE4 isn't compatible with Wii U. The 3DS version will wipe out the console version with ease and SE already know that so they're preparing to maximize the console version.

Reggie said Nintendo don't like to announce stuff and then release it a long while after the announcement so I expect this thing to drop very soon after it is announced, possibly during e3.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

First of all why does anyone think it would not trace the Wii U. They didn't announce any new games for the Wii U at E3 but announce many for the 3DS and the New 3DS is fairly new. It is dumb to think its a handheld.

As for Dragon Quest, it can get delayed and just because the games is sceduled for 2016, that doesn't mean a NX an NX version has to come out at the same time. Also, the game isn't even confirmed for NX. Its under consideration.

Of Course is in development for NX, what the hell they would mentioned at all NX version if NX still isnt revealed.

They anancued NX version, then they get call from Nintendo and Nintendo told them probably "guys we still didn't revel NX and nobody know what is exactly and when is coming and you already announced 2 games for it, WTF!?" after that SE made statement that they only considering NX version, doing damage control.

Pretty much this.

Do people really think SE would even consider the platform not knowing what it is? It's clear they've been introduce to it and have a good idea of what to expect.

I think that NX version of game is already in development with 3DS and PS4 versions, probably similar version like for PS4.

Of course it releases in late 2016. But people didn't want to listen. Nintendo could make a public statement and say "we will release NX in late 2016" and gamers would still put their fingers into their ears and scream "lalalala it'll release in 2017".

The fact that Nintendo said NX is a home console and they'll talk about it (= release it) in 2016 but gamers still don't want to listen should be a warning sign that the "gaming community" is indeed living in a parallel universe.

Agreed.

Clearly, Nintendo and their fans think different in this regard.   Nintendo sure wants to put WiiU behind and move on to the future.

Can't really blame Nintendo for releasing NX in 2016.

The way Nintendo it's treating the Wii U is an embarrasement. No exclusive Zelda AND getting a successor before the handheld? Even if it's a failure Nintendo should have treated the Wii U owners like they owned a Nintendo console, not a turd like the Virtual Boy. If they weren't prepared to commit resources like they did with the Gamecube they should have dumped the console inmmediately after launch and cut a few heads.

NX is likely a replacement for both 3DS and Wii U. If it's simply one or the other, why not say so? They can't because it's different and will replace both.

The GameCube wasn't handled much better. After 2004 when the DS launched, Nintendo effectively abandoned the GameCube with their big internal teams. The only big internally produced games they had only for the GameCube after 2004 was Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat and Fire Emblem. They padded out their GCN roster using farmed out releases like Mario Baseball, Mario Party, Mario Strikers, Battallion Wars, Star Fox Assault, etc.

Plus the Wii U isn't even selling as well the as the GameCube (a good deal less actually). So why should it have equal support?

The idea that the GameCube was supported like gangbusters in its final two years is compelete revisionist history though. The big GameCube holiday game for 2005 was Mario Party, lol.

Well I am currently pretty satisfied with my Wii U, some of the best Nintendo games or whole franchises ever and more games are coming, I think majority of Wii U owners think same.  Comparison with Virtual Boy don't make sense because Nintendo discontinued Virtual Boy after 6 months, and it will give Wii U support at least 3-4 years. Also Nintendo home console usually have life span of around 5 years, so I will understand if Wii U (worst selling Nintendo console ever) will have life of 4 years if Nintendo relly replace it with new home console.

We still don't know anything for sure, if we are get more game, does Zelda U is really cross platform, if NX is a home console and replacement for Wii U...
