Forums - Nintendo - Realistically, how powerful can Nintendo's next handheld & console be if they release at $199.99 each?

I just don't think that the console will be at $199. I'm thinking it will be around $299-349 with power on par or maybe even surpassing PS4. But the handheld? I can definitely see it going for $199 and should be more powerful than the Vita. But power won't be the thing that moves either console. It will be the ability to play both handheld and console games on the same device with cross platform play.

It has been stated recently that Wii U cost more than they would have liked to sell it for and that they are not interested in powerful hardware, so a $300+/PS4+ is kinda out of the question.

Honesty I think it would be good if nintendo aimed their console to be able to get the same 3rd party games as the PS4/XB1 but maybe at a lower resolution so they could still undercut them in price. So a game could be 1080p on PS4, 900 on X1 and 720 on the Next Ninty home console. I don't think there's any point making it more powerful than the PS4 as 3rd parties probably would not take advantage of it, and I don't think Nintendo games would really need it either. Nintendo have the advantage of knowing how powerful their competitors are and can set the specs for their next machine so that they do not need to spend more than they have to.

Basically, what the Wii U can already do? man, nintendo haters need to chill out.

Question from someone who doesn't have one: How much does a Dualshock 4/XB1 Controller cost if sold separately ? just to make a comparison (obiously would come out with a controller as well but it could be just a cheap controller built for like 5$ or even less...

Also he said that they fail with Wii U in order to have more affordable price.

All that doesn't look to me like PS4 power at $299-349, more like less power than Xbox One at around $249 price point.

PS4 Controller separately cost around $60 i shop, manufacturing cost is around $15.

$250 for the home console would be reasonable, as at that price Wii outsold competitors as long as Ninty kept on supporting it properly.
That price, if launching at the end of 2016 or later, would be enough to outperform any 8th gen console AND still be profitable from the start.
For the portable, $150 would be enough to outperform both 3DS and PSV and still be profitable too, as PSV estimated components cost was $159 in January 2012 (when it still used a back then expensive OLED screen) and by NX launch more than four years, maybe even more than five, if launched in 2017, will have passed.

I assume they mean run them at 720p with the same settings as the PS4 and X1 versions, which the WiiU certainly can't do. The WiiU would likely need to be in the 800gflops~ range for that.

Edit: Ah, this was a Zero alt. It all makes sense now

With the recent leaps in mobile power I love the idea of a Wii U level handheld that becomes Nintendo's primary system. Even its only system and they just supply a dongle or something when you want to play on the big screen.

Releasing a new home console at that price point would just be a waste and probably doomed to failure again imo. Their next full blown hc NEEDS competitive hardware for both consumer appeal and third party support if they don't want history to repeat itself. At least on par with the PS4 if not better. For that, they'd probably need to launch at at least $300.

Well considering all the "features" of the Dualshock 4 I suppose a 10$ ordinary controller (for manufacturing) is doable. so it's 189.99$ for Hardware minus earnings...

I won't buy a cheap and uninteresting console I don't want. I will buy a console that I am interested in playing.
