I was gonna reply, but you summed this up nicely.

Perhaps you need to consider most people dont buy consoles at launch price.

The people buying PS4 and X1 are mostly core gamers. Many wont buy an 8th gen console until they are like 250-300.

All depends on how you use the devices. For me, PC's and Smartphones's are absolutly worthless. I pay all of my bills, make phone calls, e-mail, make up spread sheets and other documents, photo and video edit, take pictures and video, and so much more with my PlayStation Vita 3G and my PS4.

For me PlayStation is essential, as without it I would not have a job, a house, or a car to get back and forth between them. I have had a gaming PC since 2005, with a refreash in 09 and 13. I have also had a laptop since 09. Niether the PC, the laptop, or my Xperia Z3 have ever been turned on this year. Last year the PC was only used for Company of Heroes 2, Titanfall, and Ryse. The laptop was untouched, and the Z3 was an experiment on whether a phone with remote play could make an upgrade to 4G worthwhile (it wasn't).

Going forward, I don't think I am ever going to throw money away on PC's or samrtphones again. The cost is to great, and the experience is to poor. I get more than I need with PlayStation, the devices have support over a long period, and it is at least 1K cheaper to get a new Gaming Phone and Gaming Console every 5 - 7 years.

A phone and PC allow you to do a lot more then just game so people can justify the cost. On top of that gaming on the PC you can subtract the cost of paying to play online and games are much cheaper. Hell if you really wanted to you could not pay for any games and pirate almost everything. I don't suggest doing that but it is a possibility.

yeah but Handhelds and consoles are giving you way more quality with trophys, exclusives and simplecity and ownership

Trophies aren't a necessity for enjoyment and exclusives are just an additional bonus when there are hundreds of multiplat games, many of which are more ambitious and fun than the vast majority of exclusives. Simplicity is the only thing which consoles have over PC, or rather had, since current-gen consoles feel more PC-like in this department.

And then factor in all those Steam deals and cheaper and better looking and performing PC version of games and its easy to see why many people choose PC gaming.

For me personally consoles are the luxury. I was desperately in need of a new PC, so giving myself "next-gen gaming capabilities" costed like $200 extra, compared to $400 for a console. Not to mention the $60 games, or the super expensive controllers, or paid online.

How is that even possible? And you're telling me all that is simpler to do on a Playstation than on a PC?

So much misinformation in such a short sentence!

trophies: they are everywhere on PC and mobile... pick your poison: Steam achievements, EA Origin achievements, uPlay achievements, GOG Galaxy achievements, iOS Game Center, Google Play achievements, Amazon Game Circle...

exclusives: both PC and mobile games have plenty exclusives

simplicity/convenience: mobile is even more convenient than consoles or handhelds; PCs are getting more and more convenient with auto-updates (Windows, direct X, graphic drivers...), auto-game-patches (Steam, Origin, GOG Galaxy, Battlenet,...), auto-settings (Nvidia Experience), auto-cloud-saves (Steam), automatic video recording (ShadowPlay) and easy sharing, other convenient game client features like friend lists, text chats, voice chats, streaming options, game specific discussion forums and guides...

ownership: digital games on consoles and handhelds have no advantages compared to digital games on PC or mobile... all are account-bound licences (except most digital games bought on GOG and many in the Humble Store, Kickstarter versions and many others).

With physical games (retail), you own the box, the disc/module, the handbook (if there is one included) and a licence of that game (the same licence as buying digital), you don't own the game itself! The only advantage of these retail licences on consoles and handhelds: they don't get bound to your account (but preorder-DLCs, season passes and other DLCs will), so you can resell them; most AAA-games on PC can't be resold after activation, but thousands of smaller/older PC titles don't have to be activated and can be resold: http://www.ebay.com/sch/Video-Games-/139973/i.html?Platform=PC&_dcat=139973&rt=nc&LH_ItemCondition=2750&_trksid=p2045573.m1684

so much missinformation in your post

- trophies are more valuable and have a status symbol than all the pc archievments you have counted, those are just pixels. Trophies are integrated into the OS and every game has to support them on playstation, they can also be unlocked offline because they are on the disc.

So you are the judge over the fact which achievement systems are more important than others than similar achievement systems on other platforms? You decide which is the better status symbol / e-penis and which system motivates the players more? And it doesn't matter if the PS trophies are "on the disc", other achievement systems also work offline (Steam, iOS Game Center...), they also get synchronized when you go online later.

- most of these features you counted make the stuff more complicated.

Sure, badmouth every feature your console of choice doesn't have. Just like every feature the 7th gen didn't have and now suddenly is praised, since PS4 or XBO now have it too

The OS on the ps4 is way more advanced than windows or mobile devices because its made for gaming in mind ( i can play the game while installing the game). The games get made for consoles and are less buggy than the PC versions, see batman.

Some games are more buggy or less performant on PC, but many console games also are buggy when they are released and perform muc worse than on PCs. Arkham Knight ain't the general case... nice cherrypicking.

All of my bills are payed through the web browser on either my Vita or my PS4, it just depends on when I do it, where I am, or how I am feeling. Phone calls are possible to any land or mobile line via Skpye on the 3G Vita. E-mail is built directly into the Vita OS, but G-mail and Outlook both work on the Vita, PS3, and PS4 browser. For Word Processing, and Spread sheets I use Office Online on the PS4 browser. Photo and Video editing can be done on the PS Vita and PS3 (PS4 still lacks this due to not being able to transfer files to the local Storage). I take all of my pictures with the Vita, but I also have a Sony Action Cam for some of my Video. I browse Twitter and Facebook via the web, and the built in apps on the Vita. And Every post I have ever made here was from a PSP, PS3, PS Vita, or PS4.

Is it simpler? Well, probably not for everyone, however, for me, my PS4 and Vita are on 24 hours a day. They are always up to date, and I am always using them for something, so changing activities is quick, and absolutly no hassel. On the other hand, going to another room, to turn on the PC, then wait for Windows, Nvidia, Norton, Steam, EA Access, and a dozen other programs to tell me they need updates, just does not make doing any of these task a worth while effort. I can be done paying my bills, checking e-mail, of working on spread sheets on PS4 before the PC is even ready to use, then its right back to gaming, movies, and TV.
