Forums - Sony - Square to go ROTTR on FFVII Remake and reveal other platforms?

I do understand the "It won't sell on XB1" argument, but in the end...... it's FF7. The game is definitetly noteworthy enough to have an audience on XB1 regardless of how a fairly niche HD port sold. If Kingdom Hearts 3 is coming to XB1 having never released on an Xbox console before, then I don't see why this remake wouldn't come either.

Someone on GAF said this was another SF5 situation with Sony funding the game, but if that were true then why would Sony be shy about that fact? They came right out and said that SF5 would never release on XB1. If they were funding this remake then what's stopping them from telling us what everyone's assuming?

The "Play it first on..." wording is suspicious as well. Why point that out if it's never coming to the other console? The wording isn't really necessary if it's only coming to PC.

Indeed it's FFVII, something consumers want now, not months later unless they're extremely patient. The "my friend has ____. I want ____ too" factor is quite a powerful one. In addition, not only will a hypothetical XBO version have to compete against diminished interest, it will also be competing against the PC version, where PC gamers have greater awareness of FFVII thanks to the HD Remaster. Kingdom Hearts 3's multiplatform status was determined before this gen began, which at the time Microsoft was in a much stronger position and consequently, had more leverage. KHIII and FFVII's situations are not identical nor are they similar. If anything, the outcome of KHIII on the XBO might actually end up discouraging SE more from releasing FFVII on the console.

The person that said the FFVII situation is like SF5's was Kagari, who knows the ins and outs of SE. Why has Sony not come out to clarify? Well, read Nomura's interview with Famitsu. SE just has not decided what platforms to release FFVII on other than the PS4. It's not a matter of Sony being shy, but that there's nothing to report at this time. Once the terms are finally settled, they'll tell us. You also summarized the SF5 situation incorrectly. SF5 was revealed in PS Experience in December 2014. It was not until June that Capcom came out and said SF5 will never come to the XBO.

Another important variable to consider is the XBO/PC overlap of the JRPG fanbase on the XBO. If the overlap is significant, then it will not be worth investing in an XBO version of FFVII. Also, what if JRPG fans on the XBO migrate to the PS4? After all, the latter console is getting all the other JRPGs, some of which have notable titles.

Sony is helping with the funding. There's 0% chance FFVII comes to XB1. That Nomura comment must mean they haven't decided yet if they will do a PC version.

You dont analyse things with perspective.

KH 3 has been announced at the beginning of the generation, do you really think if they had announced it now, in 2015, they would announce it on X1 ? Certainly not, they announced it because they didnt know, a lot thought X1 would win the generation, US was not even a question, then everything changed.

And i'm not sure FF VII R has a best seller potential than FF XV on X1, why would Xbox player would wait for a game they never played ? If they played it, then they are mostly PS gamers, if you love RPG you are on PS, so yes, most would think, including SE, that X1 gamers are not interested ( they would have ported FF VII to X1 if they thought the opposite)

I think FF XV will be the real test for them to see who loves Jrpg on X1

World Of Final Fantasy also has " Play first " wording though, so.... I think the decision is up to Square Enix, so wait for FF XV release to get an answer

yep, this is why they haven't been clear about the game exclusivity.  If xbox owners want FF7, they have to speak with their wallets with the next mainline game.

It'll be coming to Xbox One no more than a year later. Which is a good thing for all of us gamers! :)

I think SE are still deciding which platforms to release it on. The game is going to be very early stage so it's not like they need to make a commitment just yet.

PS4 is a dead certainty and PC seems likely as they'll have a small fanbase that played the original on PC. I think they'll wait until FFXV releases before cementing and announcing the final platforms for FFVII R. That will help to determine which platforms will be worth releasing on.

Type 0 is a psp game nobody had heard about that was sold for full price, it's a terrible gauge for interest towards final fantasy on the xbox . Ff7 is one of the biggest games of all time. I don't see why square would skip the xbox one, ff7 would still sell enough to be viable.

No one has been talking about Xbox One sales of Type 0.  It's been the difference between the 2.

I'd agree with that if everyone was saying something like "Xbox One version only sold 15k."

But they're not, everyone is talking about the difference between that and the PS4 version.  "The ratio is 7 to 1 worldwide."  That ratio is huge, and by the time the game releases, it'll likely be an even bigger ratio.  Maybe 10 to 1, maybe worse.  It all depends on, how well both systems are doing, and which market is buying them.  If people start buying PS4 for the JRPGs, then that ratio could be 12 to 1, or even worse.  (And to be honest, I'm not even including how bad the ratio could be if Xbox One gets launched later.)

Let's say 6 million copies get sold on the PS4, and 500k on the Xbox One.  It's supposed to be like 27$ per copy, is what I've often heard.

That's $13.5 million brought in.  Then you add in development costs for that.  Maybe let's say 13 million still, that's something Sony can easily pay away to keep exclusive.

Im still discounting the 7 -1 ratio as a good gauge of future FF sales. FF7 is one the biggest and most well known ever. It's not an overpriced PSP port of a game very few had heard about.

There is definitely more of a JRPG market on the PS4, I cannot deny that. But saying that FF7 has the same marketablity as FFTO HD is something I cannot agree with. I think FF15 sales will more likely decide where FF7 goes.

I think it will come to pc. Really not sure about Xbox One. Unlike the TR situation, where the release on PS4 is almost mandatory to insure some sales, a FF7 release on One could be useless and a waste of money.

When it will release, how wide will the gap between the two consoles be? How did Type 0 sell, something like 90% on the PS4? (TR sold 70% on PS4...)

So, two different situations for SE here. They can keep FF7R PS4 and PC exclusives without hurting the sales, they coudn't do that for TR and One.

I think it will end up on the Xbox and PC. The porting is too easy to pass up for the cash. After the exclusivity time period passes, it will be everywhere.

It will be on ps4 first then it will release on PC and Xbox One, SE will want to squeeze as many sales out of this game as possible to get the money back of the development costs. I can't see why people doubt a Xbox One release.
Anyway, I'll be playing this day one on ps4 and that's all that matters to me 😄👍

Add me if you want but let me know youre from this website

This is actually Sony is doing right by announcing it to be "First on PS4" to make it clear from the getgo it will be timed, instead of doing some shady smoke and mirror wording to make it look like a real exclusive.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
