Forums - Nintendo - Will Nintendo keep making Nintendo Directs?

We've had Directs without Iwata, mostly the one game-only Directs tho. Bill Trinen will probably take over them, since he's already a popular and known face, and they could change the name too. Nintendo Treehouse Direct.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Yeah, they will likely continue, although I am sure in each region they will have their own spokesperson instead of Iwata's successor being the main guy for all of them.

Given how Nintendo markets or doesn't in the case of some games, giving up on the Directs would be a massive loss of exposure particularly one you have nearly full control over.

That would work for NA, but not in Europe or Japan or Korea, since Trinnen's sections in the directs he appeared either where not in the other region's directs, hosted by some regional representative or even by Iwata himself.

I do think the Directs will come back, the question is who will host them? The president (like Iwata did), or someone specially trained to make these presentations. At the very least, it should be someone who speaks both english and japanese if those are again to be the same worldwide.

And another question: Will they emulate Iwata's iconic moves (most iconic are the "directly" move with both hands and the "please take a look" deep bow with presenting hand movement) or come up with their own routines?

Oh, and while we're at it: Will the sucessor of Iwata do something like the "Iwata asks" sections?

I expect they will present their news and updates with a new and different style.

More than likely, we will see Iwata's successor in next Nintendo Direct, and probably the first line will be something relate to Iwata.

Even without Iwata, Nintendo have a lot of people with experience with the Directs already. It's going to be sad watching them without Iwata, though.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I'll be disappointed if the directs end, but I don't see Nintendo ending the directs. Other people have done the directs recently due to Iwata's health issues, so they don't need Iwata to do the directs.

I know what you mean. I had the same thought after Iwata passed. I can understand if they don't want to continue them since it was kind of a special thing that Iwata did; however, I think they can and will continue them.

I think it'd be best to "rebrand" them and call them something else. Maybe like Nintendo Broadcast or something, just so it doesn't automatically make you think "Iwata did these so much better, the new guy sucks." or whatever.

Nintendo consumers have come to expect the Directs and we even get a little antsy when we haven't seen one in awhile. Which probably shows how good we had it and how spoiled we got over the years. I don't know any other game company that announces games several times a year instead of all at once at the big game conferences. Anyway, regardless, I think they'll continue them. I hope they do!

TL;DR - Yes, they will, but maybe they'll change the name and content a bit.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

Too early to tell without a new president imo.
