Forums - Nintendo - Why is there so much hope for NX?

Yeah, it's hope but I don't think it's blind hope. Nintendo has righted a couple big wrongs this generation. Hopefully, they'll right the rest as the NX comes out. For me, I'm just excited about the prospect of something new for Nintendo since the Wii U has gotten so little support.

I don't think they'll ever be mega-champions again of the industry. Sony has a dead lock on that. But the Wii U (and every Nintendo console before that) shows that their games are amazing. They just need a powerful, enticing machine to bring some 3rd parties back and sell enough consoles to be profitable. I'm fine with them being the niche machine that gamers have as their second console. I think Nintendo gamers are just excited about the potential, not totally confident it's going to kick ass.

Side note: You said Wii U is a financial failure, but is that really true? A commercial failure, but not financial as far as I've been able to tell. It's been making a profit for about a year now, I think. (I should probably cite a source here, but I'm too lazy).

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

The Wii U was not successful. Therefore we should not be excited about anything Nintendo does ever again. Sound logic right there.

OP should have asked "Why so much hope for NX in VGC?" This site hosts quite a big Nintendo fanbase. This explains everything.

This, on french forums, people are les excited by NX and more angry at Nintendo for giving up on WiiU ( more logical thing i think , why would you wait  for an other console from them if you had a WiiU ? You should be more skeptical and wait and see before jumping on thé next ship easily, i can understand those who jump from GameCube to Wii because GC was thé second best console of its génération objectively but WiiU? ...)

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

There's nothing that exists that suggests the NX will be successful. Truth be told, it has many many disadvantages that lead me to believe the NX will be a failure (if it's a console). However the console market is completely unpredictable. No one would have predicted the PS4 would win Gen 8 -people expected the Wii U to be #1 due to price and name brand or the X1 to be #1 because of popularity of the brand in NA and 3rd party deals. This time the strongest and most expensive console is winning (never happened). When it comes to gaming, anyone's guess is valid due to the complete unpredictability of it all

I wouldn't go that far.  Lots of people predicted that the PS4 would win Gen-8, especially after they announced the specs.  Both the PS3 and 360 has some momentum in gen 7, with Wii sales drying up.  The debate was between the XBox One and the PS4.  When the specs were announced, most people predicted a PS4 win.  When Microsoft had those DRM misteps to start the gen, it was pretty much decided.

I'm talking pre-Gen 8 kinda shit, like when Wii U was still Project Cafe and X1 was 720 and PS4 was like.. Orbus? ("They won't call it the PS4 because 4 is an unlucky number in Asian countries"). By the time the Wii U was hitting droughts and the PS4 and X1 were revealed we knew, but I was mainly referring to speculation before we knew much about the systems.

Eats either this or App Store stories... They wrote history for hour beloved hobby, yet they are close to becoming its appocalipse starter. I'm still waiting for a change in attitude / respect first. These motherfuckers forgot who got'em here.

By that logic, Wii was very successful and yet Wii U is big flop, what that tells to us!?

My logic is if Wii U is Nintendo biggest flop they will certainly try hard to deliver much more successful product, and if we look at Nintendo Wii U mistakes, they are all very reparable.

I realised you are only member on forum that forcing talk that Nintendo already abandoned Wii U and that Wii U owners are not satisfied, and thats not true at all. Nintendo delivered one of the best games of whole franchise and some great new games like Splatoon and good exclusives objectively only thing that Nintendo owners can complain is there is no Metroid game.

If we look how bad Wii U is selling, and what Nintendo already released and what will release on Wii U yet, I can understand and I will be satisfied owner (I am already satisfied Wii U owner) if Nintendo abandoned completely Wii U in 2017. or after around 4 whole years. I think if some other companies were in similar situation they would cut their support for owners much earlier.

well nintendo do have incredible unexpected suprises, like the Wii, and the DS. I think they learned some lessons now

You don't want fewer competitors in the landscape because that's bad for consumers. If Nintendo fails with the NX they will likely exit hardware because their true talents are in software. Honestly, I would like to see them exit hardware, and see someone else enter.

One of the reasons why their games are so good are because of their own hardware, they always make hardware with their game in mind. If they exit hardware business you can bet their games will never be same again, but I don't think they are not real chances for Nintendo to exit hardware business, they always make money on hardware even now with Wii U. I think that much bigger chances are that Microsoft exit hardware business.
