Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Fire Emblem Fates over sexualization is really off putting imo (pics)

As a sidenote, I'm nearing the end of White and the storyline is indeed extremely weak.

White is supposed to be for Awakening fans.

I'm pretty sure Black has the darker, deeper storyline for older FE fans or so I understand, also more vareity in objectives.

And what do you think of the gameplay and difficulty (maps, strategy), compared to Awakening ?

Nintendo says that White is like Awakening (so, I will play Black Kingdom first I think), is it true ?

White is a lot harder than Awakening in Normal/Classic, believe me.

I wouldn't count on that. The girls in Black (Elise and Camilla) are much closer to Vita fan-service clichés than the ones in White (more or less the classic FE heroines). Same goes with the guys from what I've seen.

I never even played Awakening in Normal, so I sure hope so ^^. I'll see what Black is worth, it's supposed to be for the fans of the previous FE...

The character above is Ophelia, she's the daughter of Odin (the clone of Owain from Awakening). I agree she's really cute and she's one of my favorite character until now (with no more infos), but I just hate her outfit >< .

is that for you too much?

Sadly, for me, this answer truly depends on ones personal views White-San. This issue is constant throughout multimedia entertainment. Even some people viewed StarFire from the New 52 a form of artistic freedom. The big question still is "Where do both devs. and gamers draw the line between artistic freedom and over sexualization?"

there is no line because over sexualization IS artistic freedom.  if the artist would choose to make everybody naked, thats totaly fine, its his vision and not the vision of some hardliners of the victorian age...  go to saudi arabia if you cant stand half naked women.

How is this even a retort to my thread? I'm not arguing that it's illegal or morally wwrong to put this outfits in the game, I'm saying it's in poor taste and really sacrifices all the charm and character the series spent 20 years building, just to get weebs and horny teenagers to fap to anime chicks that dress inapproiately, both for the real world and for the setting/period of the series.

I'm talking story, don't care if a game has fan-service, that does not make me appreciate the story anymore or less, I would know as a Tales of fan.

and you haven't seen the stroking mini-game yet!

nah, seriously, this isn't "oversexualition" at all. This is just average fan-service in today's RPGs, people want that.

How do you think it sold so well? Many Vita folks came for the cute & sexy things.

It's just modern gaming, deal with it.

As a sidenote, I'm nearing the end of White and the storyline is indeed extremely weak.

"Deal with it" can literally be said about every single topic on every single forum and every single debate.  Don't know why people even feel the need to post that in messages board, it adds nothing to the debate and just comes off as mindless defending of something.  Sure it's not going away, but don't me and the true fans of the original FE  at least have a  say?

And yes ,this is indeed oversexualization.  When sex appeal becomes one of the main features in the game, be it in second things, art, characters, ect, and is done in poor taste like Fates, then it becomes a problem.  It has zero intellecutal or artistic value, this isn't even erotica, it's straight pornography

And, something that I haven't seen here : about the children....

In Awakening, the children of our characters come back from the future, so it's important to marry your characters in order to have children coming back to help you. The "time travel story" is really poorly used IMO (no mention of that at the end of the story, really ?), but at least the children have a purpose and an explanation.

Now, in Fates, why do you need to marry in the story ? Why do we have the Waifu and kids system ? FOR NOTHING. The "explanation" about that, from what I've read on the internet from players, is :

Your characters marry and have sex, and then put the foetus/baby (I don't know exactly) in a capsule-thingy linked to another dimension where the time pass faster. So your kids grow really fast and come to help you when they come out of their capsule. Story ? ZERO. Explanations ? ZERO. Interest ? Besides giving an alibi for having sex with your characters, ZERO.

- "Hey guys ! Let's put in our game some naked chicks, to have sex and children with, it will help the sales !
- Yeah, it worked last time, but it has nothing to do in the story of this game ?
- What's the point ? We'll find a BS one-liner to explain that, no sweat ! Naked girls AND sex, nobody will try to think and understand !"

Is it really ecchi for you?
Design: looks like a oriental dancer outfit.
Original? - No, its the standard outfit for Dark Mage
by the way she is only a side charackter and she is not important for the main story

Your right, it's not really ecchi. Ecchi characters usually have panties, and she clearly doesn't. They didn't draw the sex, but she's still naked, seriously. Oriental dancer outfit ? For a battle mage ? Why ?

And because she's only a "side character", she can be naked without questions ? Like I said, it's just lazy fan service with no other purpose and not even remotely related to the game.

To be fair, look at all the outfits of dark mages in previous FE games and compare.

Go on, I dare you

This is totally off putting, someone needs to post more pics we can be upset about. Seriously, post more pics!

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

The problem here is when talking about drawing the line it can simply be argued that if it's not breaking the law the's no line to be drawn but rather a form of acceptance that even if what you see is not to your tastes it's still someone's artistic vision.

There is no drawing a line, it's legal to do all this stuff and accepted more than it is not accepted.  Of course people have a right to put whatever they want in the game, no matter how harsh, again it's law's concern not ours.

That being said, this isnt a callout of sexualization of video games or even JRPGs in general, iit's calling out the new and quite childish sexualization in fire emblem that truly is in poor taste
