They removed gamecube backward compatibility in the subsequent models of Wii unfortunately.


This, I know for sure it is gone in the last revision Nintendo did that only came out in Canada, although I am not sure about the second revision that looks like a more blocky Wii U, if that one has the feature removed as well.

I have old Wii, never bothered to actually play GC games on it, but apparently you can play GC games on both newer Wii and WiiU via Nintendont. http://gbatemp.net/threads/nintendont.349258/#Features

It also supports lot of controllers.

Yes, but only with Gamecube controllers. Be sure to have an older Wii SKU, the newest versions removed the Gamecube sockets.

I also think you can hack the virtual Wii in the WiiU and play Gamecube games with Gamepad/WiiU Pro controller/etc.


the Virtual Wii can be hacked to play GC games.  that would be nice.  do you have links regarding it. or it isn't allowed here? :)

Apparently it doesn't support the WiiU Gamepad (maybe due to its wifi protocol?). So, bluetooth controllers and some USB ones - even WiiU's official gamecube adapter. Literally a Nintendon't controller mapping support xD

i only saw this link. it is the original Wii with the gamecube controller, and how to put it on the Wii.  My question was about Wii U having the virtual Wii to play GC games.  so technically a Wii U with a GC disc on it and homebrew'd or whatever type of hack people have done on a Wii U.

Indeed. BC was a thing for Nintendo since the Wii so it's really nice. You can play GameCube games on the Wii with the GameCube controller and you will also need the memory card.

What I like even more is that there are quite a few Wii games that are compatible with the GameCube controller.
