Shigeru Miyamoto.

Miyamoto.

Atari could be up there, but they also almost killed the industry. Nintendo brought it back, thanks mostly to Miyamoto and his games/vision.

Depends on who you ask, but I'll say Shigeru Miyamoto

I'd say Atari, Nintendo and Sony, about equally.

The entrance of each in the market brought about a huge increase in the popularity of gaming, and reinvented the relationship between console manufacturers and game developers.

It'd be better if we did it on a Decade basis, because my answer would be Miyamoto, but in the last 15 years my answer would be different.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

If gamers wouldn't have bought the fucking thing gaming would have died faster than Disco.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

Legend of Zelda for battery back-up/the ability to save games.

I would say Miyamoto for a specific individual just because he created an iconic character that was the resurgence of video games. And also since he's really the only famous one I know much about.

As far as a company goes, all three of the big companies have made incredible strides to advance the industry from a children's toy to a recognized art and entertainment medium. Each in a specific way.

It'll be awhile before I figure out how to do one of these. :P

I'd go with Sony.
