I'm afraid dealing crazy people is a byproduct of working with the public. I had a number of similar experiences back when I worked retail.

Any job that serves the public deals with people like this. It normally doesn't happen this badly, and unfortunately you were caught in it. Sorry about that.

I haven't worked at a games store yet, but in an ice cream parlor. You wouldn't believe how stupidly agressive people can get over ice cream during a hot summer.
I don't think I've ever had one quite as bad, but I've had to deal with plenty, ranging from mental disability to just plain asshole.
When dealing with a customer like that, we would usually try to remain calm, assertive and nice. If that didn't help we'd refer him to a random experienced coworker who we'd pretend was our superior, who would proceed to try and settle it in the same manner. In extremer cases we would get our boss or center security.
I once had a group of really big guys harrassing me, throwing curses my way and when I told them I'd call center security if they didn't back off they really lost their shit. I was honestly afraid I wouldn't get to make the call in time, when this tiny elderly lady who had been standing in the line stepped up and told them to back the fuck down. Most awesome thing I've ever seen. Never had trouble with them again.

Bottom line is, your guy probably wont be back. he was probably desperate, or mentally instable, or both and you probably did fine with him. Just be careful, if you see him around again.

You should consider taking a vacation from that gamestop. Edit: Game store.  If you don't want to take a leave of absence or quit, then get some kind of protection.  Mace if you have to.

I heard of this sort of thing happening in pawn shops a lot. If someone starts to get out of hand, just tell them to leave and if they won't just call the cops. Just be calm and assertive with where you stand. Just call the cops if you see him again in the store.
