Would things have been better for the "gamer" as a whole?

The SNES did lose to the Genesis in the US.... so for me... it already happened. Back in those days, there was no internet. All I knew was that Genesis was top dog. Later, when I found out SNES actually won? I was like...wtf?!?! lol But then I looked it up and found out that it did infact lose to Genesis in the US, so.. yeah... haha

Nintendo going third party is still the worst idea ever for me.

What if Nintendo's current quality control stayed the same though? Like, suppose they pulled a Sega, only instead of having the IP turn into trash, they actually kept making great games? Would you care then?

Man, I love Nintendo. But Nintendo justs wants to limit themselves. They can't just choose to not compete with Xbox and PS in an industry that requires competitiveness for success. If they created a console with everything essential for a generation, they could have a chance to do something special with their IPs, go above and beyond. But if Nintendo stays on their current path, I wouldn't mind seeing their games on my PlayStation 6.

What exactly they could do with their IPs?

Sorry if I fail to see how games like Xenoblade got limited by their hardware.

I don't think so, you see my brain has gotten used to play Nintendo games on Nintendo systems, and I play them the most, I have an XBOX 360 and PS3 and I have games that I like in them but I don't play them as much, an example I love Tales of Symphonia (I know it's not a Nintendo game) on Gamecube I have clocked over 400 hours in more than 7 playthroughts and I keep playing it, I also have the PS3 HD collection that one has around 7-9 hours put into it.

Even if Nintendo kept the same quality I would struggle to beat a game on PS or XBOX, it's would feel wrong to me playing a Mario game with a Dualshock or XBOX controller.

Xenoblade was built around the hardware. Don't tell me that they wouldn't have included much more into the game if the Wii U had the power of a PS4.

Also, look at Zelda U. Because of the power of the Wii U, Zelda will be open-world. It came to the point where they could make a bigger game and not have to sacrifice or tone down other aspects due to limitations. It's crazy, considering Zelda had always been more linear in design compared to many other games.

Honestly, I don't care for most of Nintendo's games, so it doesn't matter to me much if they ever go third-party. I do regret missing Zelda and Fire Emblem but not much else.

However, Sega losing means that we got to have great Sega games on Playstation, such as ... uh, Sonic ...

Oh, and Valkyria Chronicles. Valkyria Chronicles > Nintendo for me.

Zelda 1 on NES is open world, much more than some modern games having a huge world but a very linear progression, the design aspects of Zelda being a more linear game started on the N64.

No, I always liked Nintendo more !

Open-world refers to the world of a game, not the progression. And for the standard the industry had back then, Zelda 1 was indeed open world, but an open world NES game at that.

Nintendo 3rd party would be so much better than Sega 3rd party. I have faith Nintendo is competent enough to make games for someone else's platform without losing their "charm."
