I am currently playing gran turismo 6 and while the cars look great (this is gran turismo after all) the enviroments look very poor even by 7th gen standards. Not only do the textures  look low res but they are still using cardboard cutout tree's and bushes, something i haven't seen in years. Ps3 may be really old but it can still produce gorgeous looking enviroments  so why the discrepency? why do some other ps3 games look like a generation ahead of gt6. I am not saying this for effect but apart from the upgrade in resolution enviromentally there really isn't that much difference between GT6 on ps3 and GT4 on ps2. Like i said i am talking about the enviroments, there is nothing wrong with how the cars look.

Update: This is what i'm talking about. Notice the cardboad cutout wall of trees.

Using an imported car and stage from GT4 to illustrate your point is a rather questional approach.

That's like using the MGS 1 skin for Snake in the Ground Zero's DLC to illustrate why Ground Zeroes graphics are bad.

While your point may not be wrong, your example is rather misleading, and will leave people who are not aware that these are imported assets with the wrong impression.
You should be able to get your point across without such tactics.

I had no idea that the game used imported assets, if i did i would think they imported gt5 tracks in place of 2005's gt4. Anyhow the game looks mediocre in general not just the throwback stages. BTW I am only playing it because i reckon i can grab the platinum.

GT6 runs on 1080i on 60fps...on PS3. It looks as good as it possibly can.

This here is more important.

Of you believe GT6 has any sort of PS4 or LOL PS5 quality assets in it then you'll literally believe anything Polyphony tells you.

And even if that were true, which it isnt, it's still a shitty way of developing games, and GT has suffered for it. Instead of trying to cram as many components in as possible and future proof parts of the game for better optimization, they need to just build a game designed solely for the console it is releasing on.

When I was playing GT5 or 6, I didn't care about how quickly assets could be ported into PS4 or PS5 or how quickly that would allow them to release future games. I wanted titles right then worthy of the GT name (which used to be my favorite game franchise) and instead got an inconsistent and dated mess that in many aspects literally looked and played like a PS2 game.

If you really think there are PS5 quality aspects inside a PS3 GT game then you have incredibly low standards for the franchise.

lol it is true.

"there's a sense that GT6's assets were created very much with the future in mind: between the incredibly detailed premium car models, the advanced lighting solution, and the beautiful post-processing utilised in replays, it's fair to say that a boost to image quality and performance alone could make for a convincingly high-end PS4 title."

The new tracks and premium cars uses downgraded assets in GT5/GT6... that is fine.

So with better hardware boosting certain elements of the game, it could be a next gen title. Sounds like... idk, any game ever made. Forza 5 and DC both look better than anything in GT6. I mean, it's a pretty silly thing to even say. "These could pass for next gen assets, if they were boosted by next gen hardware".

And no, it's not fine that large chunks of the game are assets from a previous generation. You're welcome to disagree, doesn't make you any more right than I am. You should read the article you linked past the part you quoted here. Sure, GT6 might be the "most complete" GT game by having the most content, but it's also incredibly inconsistent, many areas have shoddy quality, there are a lot of technical issues, and the same sound and abysmal AI issues plague the game.

You can go ahead and salivate at the idea of those PS3 assets being used for two more generations, I'll continue holding out until PD delivers something beyond the PS2 generation of racers. GT6 is the last time I will waste money on the franchise until they start building games from the ground up for the console they release on instead of using decade old assets to recycle content for a bullet point on the box. It's also the only way we'll ever actually get decent sound and AI in the franchise. I understand this is a waste of time trying to discuss this with you, you're the same guy who said the Vex Mythoclast was perfectly fine in Destiny until the day Bungie patched it LOL so enjoy the last word in this exchange.

The new gaming assets... cars, tracks, etc... are made in 8k resolution mostly... they are ready to be used in PS4... PD just downgrade them to use in PS3.

600 cars didn't needs to be rebuild to be used in PS4... that is a lot of work because PD said they needs 1-3 months to make a new Premium detailed car most because the interior.

They won't need to remade/rebuild any of the 600+ cars.

Turn 10 needed because the cars had 360 quality assets and that is why they had only 200 cars in Forza 5.

PD learn that most because the GT4 to GT5 transiction... all the cars assets made for GT4 were not ready to PS3... so they used the name standards... so after this mistakes they started to created cars assets ahead it time... so they have the cars on PC at way high resolution than PS4 even use.

Nope.

Depends on where you look.

Compared to other racing games, I notice that Gran Turismo has a lot more detail (and therefore, processing resources) going into the cars rather than the surrounding terrain. That's why all the "GT6 graphics are terrible!" screenshots focus on off-track terrain or standard cars. All the premium models look lovely, and not just in Photo Mode, either.

Also, Gran Turismo 6 has dynamic weather and time-of-day lighting, something which is extremely taxing on the PS3's limited hardware, hence why every other racing game with dynamic lighting/weather (Driveclub, Project Cars, etc) are all on 8th-gen consoles.
