Forums - Politics Discussion - Jeb Bush: People Need to Work Longer Hours

... I think him and Donald Trump have more in common than people give them credit for.

Well yes, I agree, no one should be able to attain 0%, but I only said rich people as those are the ones that are able to do that anyway.

Teeqoz, for a bright kid, you really don't know what you're talking about here. Low income earners pay no taxes. The people making minimum wage and just above pay zero federal taxes and it's been that way for years. Even when I was making $10/hour in 2011, I paid no federal taxes.

The only rich people are able to pay reduced taxes is by making tax deducition expenditures. This how charitable giving is incentivized.

The key there is federal tax. They still pay FICA and state/county/city income tax.  Also, there is property tax, sales tax, etc. they contribute.

A big reason wealthy get taxed differently is most of them have large source of income via investments or capital gains which is taxed differently from earned income.  This is why it is possible for someone making more money to be taxed at lower percentage.

Yet the the SS cap is right below 120k.  So the ultra rich pay less proportion in SS tax than anyone making under 120k.  The cap should be taken away.

anyway on topic, i work 12-15 hour days, and usually weekends to on the norm, being a v-22 crewchief/mechanic. i dont want to work more.

Wow, is that being on-site, or do you actually work all that time? Sounds like a cool job anyway, I hope it pays well at least.

well thankfully lately its just been about 10-11hour days. but when we were out in 29 palms supporting a month long integrated training exercise (ITX), and for a while like between last august to november, we were working weekends, with what what supposed to be 12 on 12 off. but really turned into 14+ hours on, less than 10 off.

and yes, its on site at the squadron hanger, im either flying for missions, or fixing the plane to be ready to fly.
Being a crewchief is a fun job, I love flying all the time, landing on aircraft carriers, or on a mountain, and shooting guns out the back. but its a demanding job.

and no, the pay sucks, e-3/lance corporals make like nothing. and it doesnt help that the past 2 years of pay increases have been the smallest in military history, (1% each year, which lags significantly behind national pay increase, and inflation, which is what the anual pay increase is suppossed to do) nationally average pay went up like 2.5%, with inflation even higher.

How about you increase taxes for the rich first? Lol. Warren Buffet himself once found out that he paid a (substantially) smaller tax than his secretary (percentage wise of course). How?

because he hired the best tax lawyers he could, to find any and all tax deductions, and "loopholes" he could, and because his secretary is aparently retarded and doesnt know how to file taxes. oh, and because buffet is a lying hypocrit, who could pay a much higher tax if he wanted to, like he claims, and in fact can pay extra to the irs (the amount he claims is fair, yet doesnt do)

anyway on topic, i work 12-15 hour days, and usually weekends to on the norm, being a v-22 crewchief/mechanic. i dont want to work more

I see, getting all that taxpayer money already made you lazy like a socialist. /s

something like that. ha

nah, i prefere to mix fairly low claims with a decent amount of wealth and some basic need independence skills. that combination, plus the luck that i wasn't born in one of the poor parts of the world, allows me to lead a pretty relaxed life far from modern slavery. if anyone wants to try out the same, i can only recommend it. of course modern economy doesn't want you to be like that.

Wikipedia says the top 1%, which make 19.3% of the money made pay 24.2% of the total taxes paid. So a quarter of the total tax pie. But considering how much money they make, it would be fair if they paid something around 32-35% of the total tax pie.

The numbers I was quoting relate to percentage of the income tax revenues, which constitutes about half the total tax revenue. So yeah, the 1% pays 25% of the total tax revenue. Actually, more, as they also contribute disproportionally to other sectors of the pie, such as payroll and estate tax.

Any opinions on Rand Paul's plan? Eliminate FICA, $35,000 deductable + $5,000 per dependent (so family of four has $50,000 tax deductable), and a flat rate around 14%, also cutting corporate/business taxes to the same 14.something%
