Forums - Movies & TV - Excited for the Stargate remake?

I remember watching the first film when I was a kid and loving it. I think this was the first Kurt Russel film I ever saw. This film along with Star Wars may have been the ones that could have planted the seed of my love for science fiction stuff.

I have been on the fence about watching the series for a while, there's a lot of seasons/episodes to watch and that is a little intimidating to my schedule. But I will try to finally go and watch them because I keep being reminded of their existence.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

I love Stargate. The movie and all of the series.

What is your source for a new movie?

All sg movies and shows should connect to Sg-1, Atlantis, and Univsere imo.

Strongly disagree. It's too old and convoluted, there's no way of getting new fans of the franchise if it carriies so much this baggage. Like Star Trek.

The fact that Universe was cancelled, despite having good ratings still, just because syfy wanted to get more ghost hunter reality shows and whatnot still ticks me off considering that show was a million times better than Battlestar Galactica.

I wouldn't compare these two shows - Stargate was more child-friendly while Galactica was more adult-oriented. Honestly, I think the latter certainly has its place in TV.

If it reboots everything and leaves the universe they've built behind, then I'm against it. Sort of like how the new Star Treks are basically a death sentence for the crews of the three main shows, so even though they're pretty cool movies, I hate them for being what they are.

Actually i'ma big fan of leaving convoluted histories behind and starting anew, rather than sequeling ad infinitum.

I will watch it, but I feel it might be like the Star Trek remake; great movies, but not in any way true to the legacy. Stargate is NOT the original movie but rather the following series and movies that came after it. They set up a fantastic universe of "gods" and politics.

I like the original movie, it doesn't need a remake. I never got into the series, too militarized. Spin off movies weren't that great either. Stargate Universe however was pretty good, yet cancelled. I would be a lot more excited to see that show continued or getting a movie.

I'm currently watching Dark matter. The pilot was meh but it has been getting better since then.

I guess I feel like when a series gets to that point, it should just be laid to rest.

SG1 and Atlantis were great, I didn't really enjoy the original movie.... I'm not really excited for a movie....

You're apart of the 5% (my guess) of stargate fans that is excited for this. The rest of us loved Sg-1, Atlantis, and Universe (as well as their movies) far, far more than the original movie. The fact that this guy just thinks he can throw out decades of GOOD storytelling by making stargate 2 and 3 is an absolute joke.

The first movie didn't do well, and the shows did far better. This is the thing that ticks me off more than anything in the movie/tv section of the world right now; these sequels should NOT be happening.

Leaving Battlestar Galactica aside (I haven't watched it), I completely agree with you.

What I don't get from modern Hollywood is the constant need to reinvent/reimagine/re-whatever past films. Do they really think movies like Ghostbusters, Robocop, Poltesgeist, etc. will be better because they will have better CGI? Pfff

Oh, and Emmerich is just pissed off that someone took his premise and turned it into a TV show doing a much better job and having a lot more success than he did.

Totally agree. But his execution failed, it's not the shows faults that they were so much better.
