Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Shareholders Meeting: LIVE REACTIONS!

There is a third option:  buy a controlling interest in select franchises.  Nintendo has a controlling interest in Fatal Frame, for example.  So if they cannot buy Capcom, why not secure control over select franchises?  Monster Hunter and Mega Man are obvious choices.  If they did that, they could dictate where they go.  A full HD Monster Hunter on consoles (could do wonders in the West cause let's face it, MonHun is a kind of game westerners want on consoles not handhelds) and a well funded Mega Man would be pretty big boons for them.  Not to mention it would ensure the exclusivity of the franchises.

I'm not sure if that would be possible, but I think Nintendo would benefit far more from control over franchises like Street Fighter and DMC than Monster Hunter and Mega Man. Nintendo already has Monster Hunter, and Mega Man is easily attainable without an investment like that.

But bits and peices of franchises wouldn't be worth it. It's like Sony controlling Spiderman vs. Disney controlling the rest of Marvel. If they go that route, they need to make numerous significant power purchases, unlike what Sony kind of did with Street Fighter V which is only for one franchise. The most important one, definitely, but only one.

Kind of like Spider-Man.

Actually, exactly like Spider Man.

What Nintendo could do is put a ton of money into NX exclusive rights to 5 Capcom games, kind of like what they did in the GCN era, but this time with only big franchises. Devil May Cry 5. Monster Hunter NX. Resident Evil 7. Mega Man NX. Nintendo vs. Capcom. (in place of SFV) It would cost a lot of money, but would franckly be just as effective as a buy out, with the downside being that it wouldn't be permanent.

Sounds like NX will be a non-conventional console/device/handheld whatever.

So that may also be why they don't want to show it until next year (presumably closer to launch), because they are afraid Sony/MS will copy the idea. That said, if the idea is really that interesting, they might have to brace for it being copied quickly.

I would not be too worried about it...  I think Sony and Microsoft are already having to support Morpheus and Kinect/holo lense and would be spread thin to expect them to copy Nintendo's game experience as well.   However, the closer to launch Nintendo announces what they are doing the better because it if is a hit it will be copied in some regard.

Nintendo does a lot of stupid shit. They do it, and flat out tell you it's stupid without admitting so. The catch is.. they're not stupid. Every recent new idea they've had despite the Wii U's issues has made them money. From New 3DS, to Amiibo, to Splatoon's success.. All of this, alone with no third party support whatsoever.. That's very remarkable. Could the other two achieve this? maybe, maybe not considering they could just cut the cord on their gaming divisions.

This is the last video game company, and something tells me they're holding back and preparing to play all of their cards right when NX launches.

Hype will be build with:

Mobile App/mobile games
Theme park attractions
TV/Movies
Club Nintendo replacement
Third party acquisitions

Whatever this thing is, it's gonna be pretty big for them.

It is amazing how the "internet" keeps thinking Nintendo is stupid even when the company makes hits everytime. Let them talk, Nintendo is not going anywhere.

Nope. They've been planning these moves for a while. Looking back at their previous meetings, it's all starting to make sense now. Amiibo was the start, followed by spreading their IP into other things, and now we are hearing about the Universal deal and the whole movies thing.

Yamauchi loved Disney, and Iwata is setting the playing filed to expand Nintendo into the giant that it should be nowadays. It's ridiculous for a compnay that has made such impacts to remain so dormant due to their stubborness. They can't continue to hold back anymore from all the things they could achieve.

I wonder if the Mario movie deal with Sony is a go for sure. Because the leak made it sound like they had basically sealed the deal for it.

Hey... say something!

So seeing Iwata mostly make sense combined with his complete dissociation with E3 got me wondering.

Nintendo's messages have been mixed this whole gen and they've flip flopped a lot in terms of tone, content, and extent of advertizing and general promotion. To me, this seems to signify turmoil in the ranks at Nintendo. So I wonder if part of what we saw with the E3 Digital Event wasn't Iwata and his faction letting their opponents hang themselves? That is a legitimate means of dealing with dissenters who just won't quit and have support of people throughout the company: allow them to move forward with a plan doomed to blow up in their face. More just me musing, but I think this could definitely be a possibility, we'll just have to wait and see.

To be clear, I'm not saying all good ideas come from Iwata, I'm certain that's not the case. But it is strange to see a guy who has been gung-ho about Directs and was a vocal supporter (iirc) of Nintendo's last Digital Event and even made an appearance to so distance himself from this last one. It seriously does look like he knew full well it was going to blow up and wanted to be well clear of the blast zone.

In light of recent Disney rumors, I really hope they fell through. Disney would do a much better job with Mario than Sony could ever dream of doing.

I literally called most of that in January of 2014. The only thing I didn't call where the mobile games.

Called the mobile app.

Called the theme park.

Called TV and Movies.

Called the acquisitions.

Didn't really call the membership because I assumed it would be part of the mobile app. Still taking credit.

Now all they need to do is confirm the purchase of a relevant western publisher and I'll be king of VGChartz. Probably won't happen, though.

Yes, Nintendo execs are smart. All they had to do was concentrate on other avenues than video games to make money.

Bold predictions indeed, and pretty crazy and kind of exciting to see it all become a reality. I mostly hear people contantly say they should buy Capcom, but I wonder if people uderstand that once you buy into something, you also inherit their debt.

Overall, I do believe Nintendo could wonders for Capcom. To me, it seems like every time they work together something good always comes out of it.. whether it's Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, or Mega Man.. even with Platinum Games. There's so much Capcom history there, and to see how they worked together for Wondeful 101, Bayonetta, and now Star Fox shows that their is some magic to be made with all of that staff.

Nintendo should at least try to secure IP's like Mega Man and Resident Evil to bring them back to their glory. I could see Mega Man being a Nintendo thing again.. but Resident Evil is such a mess now that it would be best for Nintendo to invest on an alternate series of the franchise. Don't let things like Revelations get sequels that turn into terrible things. Revelations had so much potetial.. they should have done everything they could to secure that game and overlook its development.
