Every recent new idea they've had despite the Wii U's issues has made them money. From New 3DS, to Amiibo, to Splatoon's success.. All of this, alone with no third party support whatsoever.. That's very remarkable. Could the other two achieve this? maybe, maybe not considering they could just cut the cord on their gaming divisions.
This is the last video game company, and something tells me they're holding back and preparing to play all of their cards right when NX launches.

Third party acquisitions

It is amazing how the "internet" keeps thinking Nintendo is stupid even when the company makes hits everytime. Let them talk, Nintendo is not going anywhere.

Nope. They've been planning these moves for a while. Looking back at their previous meetings, it's all starting to make sense now. Amiibo was the start, followed by spreading their IP into other things, and now we are hearing about the Universal deal and the whole movies thing.
Yamauchi loved Disney, and Iwata is setting the playing filed to expand Nintendo into the giant that it should be nowadays. It's ridiculous for a compnay that has made such impacts to remain so dormant due to their stubborness. They can't continue to hold back anymore from all the things they could achieve.
