Forums - Gaming - Reggie was right about the 5 to 6 years comment

I understand that, but it still does not make Reggie incorrect. Nintendo does not unveil games until they're certain the game will release within 2 years, and it is very rare things diverge from that pattern.

In contrast, Sony won e3 with titles that have either missed the release date by far or it is reasonable to expect the games to come out in a long time (FFVII remake).

Sony won because of Horizon.

Or Uncharted( from all thé exclusives already announced, it the one who made thé best impressions, compared to Uncharted 2 réactions to thé demo), or Dreams, or Star Ocean 5, or Nier, they has a lot of exclusives announced at E3 despite some people try to downplay that fact, they had many more exclusives announced than Nintendo or MS but its better to hate pretend Shenmue and FFVII are the only reason of  their winning

Uncharted 4 looked great, but the games that blew peoples' minds, the ones that were megatons, were those that people have been begging for for years. TLG, FFVII Remake, Shenmue III.

Maybe you could read a bit before answering, thé game that blew mind among "exclusives" i was saying, and TLG as good as it is stays a niche game so of course Uncharted has more effect.

If we talk about exclusive content announced as only available on PS4, they just won, no mater how people spin it

Weak statement, but anything to draw attention away from Starfox 64-2 & Soccer Prime. Were I in his unfortunate (but probably well-paid) position, I'd be pushing all these upcoming JRPG exclusives like each were the second coming, not waste time flinging dirt at other companies.

 So much this

The Last Guardian only got delayed because of serious development issues. You can't blame Sony for that. (...)

Mabel, Mabel, Mabel...

It's a Sony game on a Sony console. It is Sony's fault.

Yeah, in a way it is. But like I said, better that way than just releasing what they had at the time. You have enough big publishers acting that way.

Without TLG, FFVII Remake and Shenmue III, Sony winning becomes opinion much more than unanimous.

I think UC4 looked awesome, and so did Horizon, but for MS so did Halo 5, Tomb Raider and Mass Effect.

Mass effect ? We are talking about full exclusives, and tomb raider is not really exclusive so that kinda skills any effect it could have

PS4 had way more exclusive games announced, thats all, and since exclusives are what make a console unique...

Thats not opinion to say this its a fact

And an other fact would be to say the unanimous opinion from journalist is that Uncharted 4 impressed much mord than any other exclusive already announced.

He's only correct if you look at the absolute narrowest view of what he said. Which completely removes any context or meaning from his statement.

On the contrary, any other view removes any meaning from his statement. I'll ask you a 3rd time, what games were announced but not unveiled by Sony or MS that Reggie might be referring to?

The answer is: none. Hence that is not what he meant at all, otherwise he's incoherent.

Just the raw jumble of words he spat out of his mouth mean nothing without any context or motive. Why did he say it? What message could be possibly have been trying to get out?

We also know that the best way to launch a game like that is to surprise and delight them, to give them a launch date, in an environment like this let them play it vs. what other companies do which is to announce a project that you may not see for five, six years. It’s just not the way we do things.

His statement is saying that Nintendo didn't show off more games because they are too early in development and they didn't want to announce anything too early because thats not what they do. It also included a dig at their competiton.

The first part is just fasle. Nintendo does annouce (announce, the word he used) games well before they have a release date or are ready to be played.

The second part is a weird dig at their competitors that seems to imply that they regularly show games really early. If he was just talking about TLG, then his statement makes no sense. Why compare they way one company announced one project to your own general way of doing things? Why take a dig at Sony for an annoucement from 2009? Especially since the game was reintroduced just says before and given a release window.

In my opinion, the goal was to say that they could have shown more, but chose not to, and to undermine the praise Sony recieved for it's E3 confrence. The first part I understand though I don't think it helps convince people that you have a strong games lineup in the pipeline. Especially since you've already said the Wii Us sucessor will be shown at E3 next year. The second part makes little sense to me as it doesn't do anything to elevate Nintendo. It like he's trying to get people to not buy PS4s, rather than trying to get them to buy Wii Us'.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Sorry I meant Gears. Tomb Raider is not exclusive, I didn't know that. But then we can't count Fallout 4 for the PS4.

Uncharted 4 impressed much more than any other exclusive, but the number of exclusives were comparable on Xbox as on PS4. I count Halo and Gears. Without TLG, FFVII RE and Shenmue III, I count UC4 and Horizon for the PS4.

Dreams, Media Molecules new game.

Fact is Nintendo has done what he accused other companies of doing. Zelda being the most recent example. It's not something that can exactly be avoided all the time. Not only has reggie proven to be overly arrogant but now he has outed himself as a shameless liar.. I guess they forgot Super Mario 64 2 AKA Super Mario 128.. Myself like many others waited 6 years 6 YEARS for a hint of that game. All the while they are saying they are working on it. It was announced in 1997. Come 2002 we find out we may finally be getting it. A game called Super Mario Sunshine. Instead of saying "yeah that's the game, sorry for the wait" Miyamoto comes out with his big mouth and says "NO! NO they are separate games. We are still working on 128."

Still no word. Fast Forward to 2004, Miyamoto again confirms 128 still exists and will be released. Then 2005 Reggie the hypocrite decides to join in the fun and put his foot in his mouth at GDC and say 128 would be at E3 2005. No surprise it wasn't.

Then in September of 2005 Miyamoto comes out and says that 128 will be on the wii and that mario will have a new sidekick and that it in fact helped with the creation of the wii.

Then finally comes GDC 2007. Miyamoto comes out and says "Oh yeah you remember how we were saying we were going to release 128 for the past 10 years.. About that, truth is it was really just a tech thing and a testament to how awesome the gamecube was..so yeah. not gonna be released anytime soon. So yeah, now's the time where I'm going to walk away slowly. Bye Felicia's, I'm out! *mic drop*" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_128

So to answer your question Padib. The fact is Reggie is a hypocrite and Liar because Nintendo has not only done the same thing, but worse.

All Hail the Jester King. The King is back, and I am still a dirty girl prof ;)

It was a dumb comment, because virtually nobody announces games that early. It's happened how many times in history?

It really sets the bar low for bragging. Might as well say, "Well, we don't like to spend 200 million dollars on a single game like all those other companies."
