same as Microsoft with XBONE

$359 PS4 500gb

$399 ps4 1tb

they will easily win the holidays with that big time plus all the exclusivity deals they have signed for this fall

and then next fall will be PS4 SLIM,NO Pricecut as they just don't need it.They will have

FINAL FANTASY 15 EXCLUSIVITY DEAL

GRAN TURISMO 7

UNCHARTED 4

KINGDOM HEARTS 3 EXCLUSIVITY DEAL(most probably)

CALL OF DUTY EXCLUSIVITY DEAL

GOD OF WAR 4

HORIZON

between now and 2016 END so they don't really need a price-cut with the slim

They can price-cut $50 in 2017 and then SUPER SLIM in 2018 and then price-cut in 2019,they have a big room to cut price and extend the generation as they are not as desparate as last generation with PS3

I don't think we'll see slim models for awhile. I mean, it wasn't until 2012 that Sony released the Super Slim PS3, and the original Slim PS3 was born out of necessity, literally dropping hardware in order to decrease size and cost. I think three years is a little optimistic to expect any kind of substantial enough hardware size reduction to turn out a model that is slimmer enough to even warrant calling a slim model. At the very least, Sony won't see it as necessary. Full system revisions like that are usually used when sales are starting to heavily decline, in order to give another push to get momentum going as long as necessary.

As it stands, staggering the top and bottom halves of the system the way they did has left the PS4 not looking all that big to begin with. I mean, it fits on top of my dresser with a 32 inch TV, controllers, and my Vita without any kind of issues, and that's lying down flat. Vertically, the thing is easy to sit in most places without issue because of how flat it is.

By end of 2016 it's 3 years since the PS4 has launched, thats half of a console cycle. The PS3 slim wasn't born out of necessity, it was a natural evolution, after countless die shrinks, hw generations and miniaturization of the parts used in the ps3, a Slim model was overdue. What hw did the og PS3 slim drop in order to shrink? Nothing. The extra baggage was already dropped with the 60GB fat model years before. The PS3 slim retained everything the fat models it was replacing.

"Full system revisions like that are usually used when sales are starting to heavily decline"

Thats not how it works. They dont suddenly start designing a smaller console because they saw a decline in sales. Revisions are made because the parts are getting smaller and smaller parts mean cheaper so they can have a price cut to go along with it. The price Sony pays for the materials is not fixed.

Whether PS4 Slim comes in 2016 or 2017 depends on when AMD is able to shrink dies.

Sony will carry on producing the 500GB version until Christmas and then faze it out. The reason for this IMO will be create a sense of a 'fire sale' with the 500GB version or 'clearing old stock'. This allows them to sell a lot of console without announcing an official price drop. And then when the 500GB version is put to pasture, the price will still be $400 (1TB PS4), still a good deal because of the extra storage. To retail 'extra' value, I think they'll shift the TLOUR to the 1TB version.

Yeah thats another scenario I was thinking about. Temp price cut 500GB model to 349 during xmas and then faze it out and have only the 1TB 399 model left starting  january.

I think last gen has spoilt people and raised their expectations on when slim consoles actually arrive.

I would be surprised if we see a ps4 slim before 2017. I have it pegged at a 2018 release and a $199 price point. Two years before the PS5.

I think it's because people are also expecting a shorter generation, except it ignores the fact that there is no standard console life cycle. Consoles just live until they become irrelevant, and then we get the next one. The PS4 will stick around as long as the hardware is deemed good enough to develop on.

XB1 already landed marketing rights to KH3. You can see it if you watch the demo and how they present the XB1 copy first.

natural evolution in manufacturing sense but not in a proaduct sense,it was launched to rebrand PS3's image

also back then die sizes were huges but now its already pretty small so it become difficult and most of all,SONY doesn't need it.

they will save it for next year without a price-cut

also PS3 was making GIGANTIC losses,SONY may have made as much as $9.5billion losses on PS3,CELL,etc

they needed that gigantic cost cutting,i remember that when SLIM first time launched, there were reports that PS3 finally broke even and was making $10-15 profit on every PS3 SLIM

Whether PS4 Slim comes in 2016 or 2017 depends on when AMD is able to shrink dies.

AMD will easily shrink the die and we will see a PS4 SLIM next year anyhow.

company's can easily shrink die in 2years but there should be investment

CELL and RSX shrinking was due to alot of investment,i remember after a few revisions when there wasn't much investment being made.both CELL and RSX became stagnant in shrinking their sizes cause they could have gone much much smaller

that will not happen

going into 4th year, they won't keep the console without the price-cut

they are already low on exclusives and XBOX is just starting to get steady and come back

Low on exclusives? How so? PS4 is rolling in console/Playstation exclusives, and it has a fair few full exclusives coming its way. The exclusive game flow for the PS4 is exceptionally healthy.
