Forums - Gaming - Little things that ruined great games for you

Dying Light: The zombie can be 8 feet away from you, but if the game decides that zombie is grabbing you, you character stays defenseless for 2 seconds until the zombie reaches you and grabs you so you can knock it away and escape. It doesn't seem like a lot of time, but when you are surrounded by zombies and they get 2 seconds of free attacks on you followed by another 2-3 seconds of free attacks while your escaping the zombies grasp. That can mean the death of you, in one of the cheapest ways to die I've seen in years.

There are other little things in that game that just really piss me off, but it didn't really stop me from playing it.

This is frustrating, I really can't think of a game that I was ready to deem "great" that was instead ruined by something small.

Bleh I want to participate.

Final Fantasy X for the lip-syncing and the awkward character motions in cutscenes. On the topic of Skyward Sword, I'm actually interested in playing the game to see if the controls are truly butchered.

Being divided in missions ruined Luigis Mansion 2 for me.

I've often stated that Demon's Souls has ruined gaming for me and I still believe it. The title showed me how boring most titles are these days with the hand-holding, checkpoint after checkpoint, brain-dead easy gameplay. I absolutely can't stand titles that are easy anymore. I become bored and want to quit no matter how good they are.

The dead zone for the control stick on Resident Evil Revelations HD. I tried the demo on multiple platforms and it was horrid. Every time that I would aim I had to push the control stick to the very edge to get the character to aim in that direction. How could Capcom ruin such a major mechanic in the game? Because of that I never bought it.

Motion controls on Skyward Sword made me not finish the game and I have no interest playing Twilight Princess because of motion controls.

its totally different, its bascially a button how motion controls work in twilight princess and aiming with the arrow is so good and makes the game more fluid. try it out if you dont believe me :P

I tried it myself and didn't like it.  Motion controls in Zelda made an otherwise good game very medeocre.  One of the first 3D Zelda games that could have been playable but ruined by a gimmick.

The timer in Super Mario World 3D.

It made a game many consider great, into a decent game at best for me.

(there where other things but, the timer is one of the bigger ones).

That timer pretty much made that game unplayable to me and I was able to play FFXIII and FFXIII-2 just fine.  When they introduced the timer in FFXIII-3 that's when I couldn't continue on.

Oh, I almost forgot.
DMD Devil May Cry Heavy Metal soundtrack. Ughhhhhh awful.

Well it wasn't exactly a great game, but Gran Turismo 5 had a little thing that irked me. If you buy the XL Edition, you will get access to the Red Bull XJ2010 Prototype (or something like that), which is a ridiculously OP car. It puts Class C LMP cars to absolute shame. The thing is, in Gran Turismo 5 there are no PP limits; only limits on Engine Aspiration, Tires, Year, Country etc. Long story short, I could use the car in a lot of events that were in theory meant for cars which were far inferior. It helped contribute to a sour experience, along with the terrible UI

I just can't put my finger on why I dislike them... but Bethesda games. And before you start your attacks on me know that I tried Oblivion fallout dishonored and a few others. I honestly can't explain why their mechanics just completely make their games unplayable to me. The only way I can try to explain my feelings towards Bethesda games is with the word soulless. There's so much to explore in their games yet it feels empty to me.
