Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto: games nowadays look so realistic that they all look the same

This is really sad by Miyamoto for 2 reasons:

1. Most realisitic games may look the same, but that in no way makes them play the same or boring. pikmin 3 plays nothing like project cars, which plays nothing like call of duty. Why do people use realistic assets, because unless you have budget to make an incredibly detailed world like destiny, you are probably better off using the incredibly detailed world around you.

2. Even if it was true, why does it matter? So what if everyone else's games look the same? As long as your game looks fine, you should be happy (doesn't seem to be the case for starfox).

It seems like Miyamoto saw all the comments about star fox's graphics, but instead of addressing them, he said "yeah but everyone elses game looks done a trillion times cause they use realism, so starfox is better"

Citing "realistic games all look the same" does not explain why Star Fox looks like an uprezzed port of StarFox 64...

I think the answer to that, which Nintendo won't admit, is that beside Nintendo EAD, they don't know how to do HD era level quality and the team they hired to help Platinum Games most likely rushed it with them.

I think he is forced into the light (remember he was expressing his honest opinion in an interview).

Maybe... but sometimes he or others at Nintendo go especifically at the competitors with bad remarks... He could say he doesn't have anything to comment, he doesn't follow what others do... and in this case he wasn't asked about other companies, he was inquired about his game lackluster graphics.

First I think it happens when you are losing, Jack Tretton was attacking Nintendo and Microsoft when the PS3 wasn't doing well, and that previous CEO of microsoft was doing it as well. I honestly thing the biggest step forward for Nintendo PR is to let go of Reggie, make Bill Trinen the head PR face of Nintendo of America. It really would solve this problem.

If you are wondering who Bill is, he is sort of the face of Nintendo of America 3DS and Miyamoto's (Former?) translator.

Not sure if it is only because of losing... it also have to do with the person talking... Ken Kutaragi even when everyone tought PS3 would steamroll everyone he done bad PR (and I would say more on lack of tact).

But yes, either sack or forbid Reggie and other people that don't know how to talk to press to say things that aint scripted. Sony put Shuhey more on front and MS with Phill because they are more likeable characters and can prop their own company, gives a pat on the back for competitors showing why they think they have the best product without talking ill about others.

Yeah a lot of aaa games all look the same, that is true.
thankfully, we don't play all the games that aim to look that specific way.
like, yeah maybe all racing Sims look the same of very similar, but we don't only buy racing sims.

Some of the current games are realistic but they are from different genres so gameplay would be totally different. I know shooters would somewhat feel the same in a sense but other than shooters there are different genres would benefit from realism. I found FIFA having realistic graphics good and Konami is pushing PES to be realistic too but improving gameplay to be competitive against FIFA.

Nintendo should just think their games for now and doesn't need to look other consoles to games. They said they want to be different but sales wise and Nintendo core is diminishing since they are too stubborn. I love Nintendo and my Wii u and all the games I have purchased but Nintendo really needs to rethink within themselves first on how to be competitive again.

Now I kind of want cell shaded racing sim. T_T

I think he's kinda talking about this:

And a more modern version:

And how about this for character design:

Apparently everyone in video game's is Vin Diesel's illegitimate bastard child.

And yeah racing sims would be another where I probably wouldn't be able to tell you which game I'm looking at unless someone specifically labelled them.
