Forums - Gaming - Shenmue 3 would probably have Persona-ish world map if it doesn't get to $10M

It was open world, but not in the sense of GTA 3 etc (remembering that nothing like that existed at the time). It was cut down into smaller segments with loading screens. But you could go anywhere you wanted, whenever you wanted (before 9pm was it? hahah!) and do what you wanted (go to the arcade etc.).

Open World was very much in it's infancy at the time and the Dreamcast was the first system really with enough clout to properly run it.

OoT, MM and that one N64 game the GTA 3 devs made come to mind...

Like I said, Dreamcast was the first system with enough clout to run an open world properly. Absolutely nothing going on in OOT field, it's just a big room linking other dungeons. :p There were games like Driver 2 on PS1 as well, but it was really overambitious for the hardware.

Shenmue was in another league as far as interactivity with the environments and what was going on was concerned.

Shenmue is quite a terrible game (opinion, duh), I played it last month. The overworld in MM is ten times better.

OoT and MM easily aged a lot better than Shenmue.

Shenmue is a product of it's era. There is a reason I think Shenmue 3 is a bad idea.

It was mind blowing in 1999/2000. A Visual Tour de Force and unrivalled in it's level of detail and interactivity.

In 2015 it's a clunky game with much of it's wow factor stripped from it through age. As for OoT and MM aging well. Only if you play the remakes. The N64 versions are pretty horrific to play now at their stuttering framerates.

I was soured to the whole campaign with the bait and switch that seemed to be happening early on. If there were any chance of seeing it on the Wii U, I'd back to make sure that'll happen.

With it being Sony exclusive, they're going to have to cover a lot of the cost themselves. Ports bring in a lot of extra funding. Just look at how well "Bloodstained" did during its entire run.

Dude if they put it in WiiU, I'd refuse  to participate.  I wouldn't back a game that gets its balls cut off by a weak, unpopular platform.  This is supposed to be an open world rpg... not bloodstained.

The WiiU version would take way too much time to build for barely any sales. It would also place technical limitations on the game.

i might not have played Shenmue, but I don't remember it being an open world rpg when I watched playthroughs of it.

I love how he wouldn't back an unpopular game if it would appear on an unpopular console.

This game's graphics will probably be nothing to write home about either.

Yep. The voice acting isn't something to write home to as well.

I remember it being ope nworld, but not an RPG. Besides, Body Harvest exists, you know.

It wasn't an RPG, it was FREE ;) (Full Reactive Eyes Entertainment)

And yes I know Body Harvest exists, it's such a shame the N64 didn't have more horsepower to run it properly.

So it's basically a true Sandbox  game?
