It would be great and I think many people would like. But I don't think it's likely to happen.

In all sincerity, I think it would be easier to get an Xbox 360 game to run on the PS4 than a PS3 game to run on the PS4. The PS4 is more similar to a Xbox 360 than a PS3. The hardware is different, but I do not think it impossible at all. I just don't think Sony will do it.

More power to you and call them out on it. You never know, you might get it.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

PS-Now is fine, has nothing to do with BC.

PS3 emulation on PS4 is not going to work, not well anyway.

And if it actually does, I'll boot up GT6 once on ps4 to see if it works then delete it again to save hdd space. I did the same thing last gen, tried GT4 on PS3, drove the Nordshleife twice, turned it off. Same with SotC, it works, cool, whatever. I did play ff12 on ps3 but wish I hadn't. The virtual memory card corrupted and I lost all saves after 100 hours of playing.

I actually do like paying again for games I already own. The remastered versions are 10x better than emulation. ICO/SotC collection 100x better than running the old game on ps3. Same with ratchet and clank and god of war. TloU on ps4 was great to play again too. Actually some games I didn't have to pay for again to get a much better version like Flower.
I also like paying again for movies I already own, I've upgraded at least 50 dvds to blu-ray, probably more.

Paying again is the privilege you have for console gaming. On PC you insert a new GPU and get better versions of all your games. On console you can only hope for emulation that comes close to the original. If you want better you've got to pay again. Go PC if BC is that important.

As a PS4 owner, I can safely say that I couldn't possibly care less about my current gen system being able to act like a last gen machine. I didn't buy the PS4 for backwards compatibility. I'll just say "ok neat" if it ever happens. People are hyping up backwards compatibility as if it is the be all end all to the success of a home console, when really, it's just a small perk that is unlikely to actually push system sales like people seem to expect it to.

Having BC is more then just playing your own games. It opens up a full library of games that you could walk into a shop and pay dirt cheap prices for. Its a great feature to have, but if you prefer to be charged a rental sevice to play a game that you alredy own then thats fine. I am not here to sell it, but again why avoid the point that Sony should be doing it for you anyway then just allowing them to nickle and dime for the next few years. Also this isnt about system sales, this is about doing the right thing for gamers. You should be allowed to play your old games on your new system. Nintendo do it, PC does it, Xbox is doing it and PS is charging you for it.

In this case, I for one, am extreamly mad at the movie, tv, and music industries. I have a huge collection of records, tapes, and VHS that I can not play on any of my curent devices. How dare they make things like Netflix, Hulu, or Spotify and nickle and dime me for the content I already purchased.

Honestly, streaming is the future. It allows you to use your content on every device you own. That is why people are willing to pay for these services every month, even if they already own some of the content on it. In time PS Now will be getting games day one with PS4 or maybe it will take until PS5. Yes, it will not be 1080p or 4K, but as streaming media has shown, quality is not as important as convience, and some content is not as vital as others. Things like Uncharted or Halo will most likly still dominate physical, and digital downloads, but indies, and yearly titles will be just fine via streaming for most people.

We can all live together in peace. Just because streaming and digital have grown, CD and Blu-ray have not died. The same is going to be true for gaming. Backwards compatibility, and physical will live on, it just takes time to make emulators for brand new hardware that is 100% different than what it is trying to emulate. That is why Nintendo and PC have no issues doing it, they have run on the same basic tech for decades. PS4 and XBO are on wildy different hardware, and PS3 to PS4 is even crazier than 360 to XBO, so it is going to take more time.

My PS4 is not a brick without BC. Calling it a brick for this makes no sense... Was your Xbone a brick before you were able to play 360 games on it? I bought my PS4 to play PS4 games, not PS3 games.

Also, I thought BC on PS3 was a big deal. Played 1 PS2 game on my PS3 the entire time I had a PS3.

4 ≈ One

I don't even think they CAN do that, not for PS3 anyway. PS1 and PS2 should be definitely possible though, but I don't care tbh. If I wanna play a PS1 or PS2 game, I'll just take my PSP or my good old PS2, respectively. There's even the option of PC emulators, which enhance the games and whatnot.

And if I wanna play a PS3 game, well, I'll take my PS3. I understand that having one machine playing everything is more practical, and the PS3 is not a small console... but really, I personally don't care.

They can't. PS3 emuation is impossible on the PS4.

Deal with it.

Sony *CAN* do it but they choose not to because they want to charge there gamers with PS-Now since they have invested heavly on that service.

This is nonsense, you cannot emulate the cell BBE on an x86 apu, the ps4 doesn't have enough power to do it at even 30% its correct speed let alone 100%.

Because of that fact the rest of the thread becomes pointless.

Oh and tell people using psnow on nothing but their TV that in order to play those games they now need o buy hardware for it, see how much they agree with your view of getting rid of psnow.

It's cool to have but I nwouldnt use it I never get rid of my games and consoles.

A few things wrong here:

1: PS4 backwards compatibility for PS3 games is impossible. Many people don't understand what kind of beast the Cell architecture in the PS3 really was. The Cell is far too complex for any 1.6GHz Jaguar CPU to handle. It cannot happen, no way around it.

2: The Xbox One isn't backwards compatible either. Games needed to be ported over on a game-by-game basis in order for them to work. Basically, it's the same thing as PS1/PS2 classics (Sony) and Virtual Console (Nintendo) on their respective platforms.

3: PS Now is not a replacement for backwards compatibility. PS Now is its own service, and it is not intended to be used for playing PS3 games you already own.

That said, PS2 emulation should still be possible. I wouldn't mind that.

EDIT: Also, one-sided polls are a no-no. Kind of defeats the purpose of a poll, doesn't it?

Nope it doesn't. Nobody give a crap about PS-NOW. Sony just want it to be introduced for existence and sitting there like a PS vita.
