Forums - Nintendo - Why isn't Nintendo Publishing Square-Enix's Dragon Quest 3DS Games in The West?

I mean, sure the series doesn't sell bonkers in the West, but it still has decent enough sales and Nintendo can reap the rewards. I personally want Theatrythym: Dragon Quest the most, but I would definitely get VII and VIII (when its price is reduced, already bought this one on PS2 and Android.)

Is it trouble on Square-Enix's end more than Nintendo's? What do you think?

Because its not their responsibility. SE is one of biggest if the not the biggest 3rd party developers in Japan with global appeal. They need to do it. If it was on PS SE would already have done it.

Nintendo needs to stop letting developers take advantage of them.

With at least part of it being Sony funded behind the scenes of course. We all know how SE is. JThey don't want to do anything for themselves. Just look at the FFVII remake. Nintendo has published Western versions of Dragon Quest games in the past for SE, and has likely benefited from their success (look at DQ IX.) So it seems like a no-brainer to me, where Nintendo and SE both benefit.

Yes lets all encurage nintendo to hurt 3rd party relations..... theres no way that could backfire.

I hate being a Dragon Quest fan. I doubt we'll see a real DQ come out here till 11, if that... We might get them 20yrs down the road as terrible iOS ports though I really want the 7 and 8 3DS ports, but I have my doubts nowadays

Dragon Quest games on DS underperformed for Nintendo, they actually gave the series a big push and it didn't work so they gave up.

Its pretty simple really, localizing DQ titles takes a lot of time, people and money and its not as if Nintendo isn't localizing a bunch of titles now.

IX sold about as much as VIII in the West. I don't know exactly what Nintendo was expecting.

IX Western Sales - .62 mil + .66 mil = 1.28 mil

VII Western Sales - . 65 mil + .75 mil = 1.4 mil.

For not having to fund development of the game, and only being responsible for localization and advertisement, those sales seem quite decent to me.

The DS games only sold about 300k in the West each, and I understand why they might have been dissapointing, but they also probably had much smaller advertisement budgets.

1. Square-Enix should have the decency to localize their own games.
2. Nintendo has their own games to localize.

The question should be why isn't Square-Enix doing the work.

My point was that Nintendo could at least benefit a little from this. And considering that these games already have localizations for their prior releases it shouldn't be a huge deal to localize.

As for Square-Enix, they like to get subsidies from first platform manufacturers. It is well known. If they can't make a huge profit then they try to get the other company to do their dirty work while gaining the benefits of royalties and brand identity.

I don't know how much money is spent in localizing a game, specially a huge one like DQVII... but judging from the sales of DQIX and IV-VI DS remakes, it seems that VII on 3DS would sell enough to make a profit. It's just a guess though.

I couldn't care less about DQVIII 3DS, as I really don't see the point of a demake. It should be an HD remaster, but oh well.
