With at least part of it being Sony funded behind the scenes of course. We all know how SE is. JThey don't want to do anything for themselves. Just look at the FFVII remake. Nintendo has published Western versions of Dragon Quest games in the past for SE, and has likely benefited from their success (look at DQ IX.) So it seems like a no-brainer to me, where Nintendo and SE both benefit.
