Forums - Gaming - Opinion: I think it is very fair to say that if a game is indie, it's indicative of its poor quality

Indie seems to be meaning it's a true game designed for fun. AAA seems to mean cinematic anymore or an FPS.

Heck Audio Surfer is still one of my favorite games!  Put a true sequal on PS4 (2 was worse than 1) with spotify support, and it'll be a big deal.

Huh. Maybe it's a generation thing? All I know is, I loved Hotline Miami, Lone Survivor, Don't Starve, and Terraria.

In fact, I spent more time on Terraria than I did on many games this gen...

I agree that there are plenty of bad indie games, but I don't think being indie means it's bad. I can think of quite a few indie games that I really enjoyed.

Flower
Broforce
Double Dragon Neon
Counter Spy
Oli Oli 2
Transistor
Journey
Race the Sun

Just of the top of my head, but you get the point I think. You just need to know what matters to you in a game and look for those qualities.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I don't have the same expectation of a 60$ game compared to a 5$ one. That might be illogical but I was born in the 80's, gg

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

Yeah. Shovel Knight, The Swapper, Stealth Inc. 2, Brothers, Super Meat Boy, Fast Racing Neo... are such a bad games... I prefer some AAA titles like The Order:1886. THAT's a freaking good game.

Money doesn't equal quality, please...

You picked an AAA game that was poorly reviewed while all my examples are of indie games that are highly rated.

While there are bad AAA games, the ones that are highly rated tend to be good - Uncharted, God of War, The Last of Us, Borderlands, Far Cry 3, Dragon's Dogma, etc, etc...

I guess Yooka-Laylee is going to suck because it's an indie game!

To be fair, Kickstarter isn't a great source of good video games.

Bastion is better than most AAA games i played. and its indie.

Played it for a bit on PC - didn't like the combat mechanics.

Flower and Journey are definitely not indie. And I don't Counter Spy is either.

Indie means independent.  Flower and Journey are indie games, because the developers aren't owned by anyone.

Vast majority of indie games are poor quality, for several reasons.

1.) For many it's the first game they've made.

2.) Usually aren't held to any standard.  There's no one to say "no sorry we can't release this."

3.) Usually very low budget.

4.) Usually even if there's someone with talent on the team, the rest drag him/her down.  Game might be well made, but awful visuals, or something.

Incorrect. Those games aren't indie because they were funded by Sony (and co-developed by Sony Santa Monica).

I think that indie/ digital only games have been bad on Home consoles. Different story for PC.

I vvould much rather buy the 6 month old $10 decent retail game then a 6 month old $10 indie / digital only game.
