I don't think indie directly equates to bad but simply low budget. I personally don't pay much attention to indie games but every now and then someone does something right.

I disagree; from my perspective, the vast majority of big budget AAA titles are crap.
Independent titles ooze character more often than not and are a great way to game in unorthodox and interesting ways - a breeding ground for creativity.
Being indie is hardly indicative of quality.I myself have no interest in the majority of indie games, but I can at least recognize that there are some quality titles.

Can you give me some examples of games that fit the bill?
I am playing Spelunky at the moment - game is absolute garbage.
That said Steamworld Dig is pretty great.
You have to take into account how much you paid for the game, most are very good for what you pay, is like the oposite of what happen with the order, is crap for a $60 game, it would have been great for $15, same happens with indies.
