That Forza looked 🔥. I may pick that up. I'll be spending about $300 at this rate in a month and a half. Damn it

| Jon-Erich said: I'd declare Sony the winner just because of the impact they had. Honestly, Microsoft had more exclusives to announce but none of them had the impact of Sony's announcements. As for Nintendo....let's be honest. If you look at what they had to show, it wasn't bad at all. Their problem is they treat E3 less like the gaming even of the year and more like just another Direct. They made major announcements before E3 and they'll probably make more in the coming months. They just didn't put all their eggs in one basket at E3. |
Not really, at the end, after E3, you make the count and you see there are more exclusive games announced for PS4, only coming to this platform, TLG, Dreams, Horizon, Nier, Star Ocean 5, i can only find 2 exclusives announced for One at E3, so ...
I can understand you prefer these 2 exclusives than anything sony showed, even if i find that hard to believe, but you can say from an objective point of view that X1 had more exclusive games announced, the facts say the opposite

Now most agree that Sony won E3 yet surprisingly a sizeable amount of people believe the Microsoft in fact won E3. What I'm trying to answer in this thread is why? Why do such a significant amount of people believe Microsoft won E3 and that Sony's showing at E3 wasn't strong enough. ( Source for paragraph: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=204393 and the surprising majority of people on YouTube who claim Microsoft won hands down )
On paper and talking objectively Sony's press conference was a legendary one. The Last Guardian was percieved to be only a mith but it was finally revealed ounce again at Sony's E3 this year. Shenmue 3 was ounce again a mith which was also announced at E3 and finally Final Fantasy VII was a game which brought many to tears when it was announced at this years Sony E3 conference. Not to mention gameplay footage of Uncharted 4, Horizon, No man's sky and many others.
On the other hand Microsoft showed Backwards compatibility for their Xbox One console, Gameplay footage for Gears of war 4, Halo 5, Forza 6 and Tomb Raider and numerous other games and indie games which look pretty darn good.
Objectively speaking it's a no brianer that Sony should be the one to win E3 but unfortunately what's written on paper doesn't always translate well on screen.
Comparing Sony's E3 conference to Microsoft's E3 conference one can clearly see that Microsoft's conference was presented in a much better way.
The Pacing: Sony's conference oddly enough had a very weird pacing with their heavy-hitters being all grouped together and presented in a very odd manner. It was presented in such a way that legendry games like Shenmue 3 and The Last Guardian were almost made to feel as if their unimportant. Meanwhile Microsoft's press conference had a much better pace. A heavy hitter in the beginning and a heavy hitter at the end with a very good middle all made for a pretty good show to watch and much better than Sony's show.
Missed Opportunities: You don't just announce a widely wanted game, like it's your average game announcement. For these types of games you need a gimmick and a good one at that. Microsoft had a pretty good gimmick when announcing Forza 6 by lowering down that sweet looking car ( and showing the history of the ford line of racing cars ) on the other hand Sony had none. Absoloutly nothing therefore making special announcements feel unspecial. It's like Gaben announcing Half Life 3 by saying " Hey Half Life 3 is coming out in 2016" sure that would send fans in a frenzy but it's nowhere near like unveiling Half Life 3 by bringing up a fake toxic substance on stage and saying that it has a Half Life of three years and then quickly showing some sweet Half Life 3 footage.
The Loopholes: Probably the biggest disappointment in Sony's press conference, the fact that two of the three heavy-hitters all have a loophole to them. One is coming to PC and required kickstarter funding while the other is only a timed exclusive. Meanwhile Microsoft showed very few games ( and the game's shown were no where near as big as the two games mentioned above ) which had any sort of Loopholes.
Of course everyone has his own opinions and to some even Nintendo won this E3 but looking at it objectively Sony should have won this E3 but as it seems ( From reactions and so on ) it's not a clear winner, and I think that Sony's own press conference may be at fault here.
What are your thoughts. Was Sony's press conference so sub-par to that of Microsoft's that it could have actually cost them an E3 "win"? |
Looking at the people who disagree I would say the reason was different.
On the pacing, almost everything was massive... so they started with myths, them new IPs them heavy hitters, they could have degrouped them, but not necessary at all.
On bringing special things to stage... Twisted Metal had the car being driven, still didn't sold well..
The only two points MS had in favour really was games being released this year and cleaner presentation (but on that part sony looked more "for the players").
About the loopholes. There aint bigger loophole than Tomb Raider.

"Sony showed trailers of their already annonced games (Tearaway, Tmorrow children, Everybody gone to the rapture, Kill stain, drawn to death, Tales of Zestria, DQH...) on the psblog, same for hardware new (dlna) and the new remaster (Uncharted trilogy, David cage games); And The VR project was for the showfloor.
Microsoft took these, and did a conference with it."
Sony only had 90 min, not 180 for a conf, and they won easily for me (and the vast majority in the world, you just need to look at pools) with the surprise.

Sony had nothing besides horizon for me. Shenmue isn't something I'm interested in, ff7 is timed, last guardian isn't interesting and besides that's not even a new game it was announce years ago and only has so much hype because it's a game that interested people but has been in limbo. If it was released a year after it was revealed it wouldn't have had this cult following. On thee other hand, Ms had backwards compatibility, gears, halo, rare replay, sea of theives and recore that interested me
Ltd predictions by the time 9th Gen comes out
Ps4:110million
Xbox one :75 million( was 65)
Wii u: 20 milliion
For me, their biggest announcements don't require a PS4.
We already knew about Uncharted 4 and Horizon didn't impress me for reasons other than combat.

I got all of the LBP games except Vita and, while it looked good, creating things just doesn't appeal to me. Uncharted 4 looks spectacular as expected. They had a good showing. The big three announcements? Not so much. Shenmue 3--I got one on Dreamcast and two on Xbox. Great games in their day but who actually played them? Who they sold like poop. Who fondly remembers driving a forklift or collecting toys? And they didn't even show the game. They just showed an old guy saying that he would begin to take up donations so he could begin to start on the game! WTF? A legendary game, don't get me wrong but be honest. The same with The Last Guardian. I bought Ico and eventually played Shadow of the Colossus. Good games but, again, they never set the world on fire. The game was considered vaporware at this point. The gameplay they showed was nothing incredible but finding out a game that we heard about and thoujght we'd be playing a year ago is finally going to come out in...2017, maybe? That is a "Megaton?" Final Fantasy VII remake? That's awesome. I can't deny that. Again, we saw nothing in terms of actual gameplay. Just another promise of something far off in the distant future. Still, that equals Sony won E3. I just don't feel the same way. Meanwhile, Microsoft (which is more than just Xbox, btw), showed us -Backwards compatibility and said some of us can test it out RIGHT NOW (and I have tried it). -Showed Gears of War remaster and said some us us could play it RIGHT NOW (and I tried it). -Showed Tomb Raider and said we would play it before the end of the year -Showed Halo 5 and said we would play it before the end of the year -Showed Forza 5 -Had a person come out with a fucking holgram from Star Wars and play MInecraft with it -Announced a new controller -Showed footage from Gears of War 4 And somehow, they lost? I imagine that if M$ had come out and showed some game that we thought was cancelled (I can't think of an example), had some old Asian guy come out and say give me money and I might make Chrono Trigger 3, and announced that they were going to eventually remake Jade Empire, they would have won E3 without having to provide anything but words and maybe a cgi trailer. We gamers are so easily manipulated. These were all just opinions, btw. Just my perspective on things. |
Wow so much arrogance in this post. Amazing.
Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition as you said is a remaster. If remasters are so amazing, Sony should esaily win this gen.
Backwards compatibility is decent but too little too late coming two years after XB1 release. There are enough current-gen games to keep anyone's interest. Also its very limited.
Hololens is cool but you have no idea what it would cost.
Gears Of War 4 footage was okay, nothing special. Its still my most anticipated XB1 game due to Gears Of War 1-3 but on its own it was a meh presentation.
Forza 6 is gonna be good, we know that, but its gonna be very similar to Forza 5 in most ways in terms of gameplay. Its not much of an evolution just what Forza 5 should have been.
Don't want to spend $150 on a fucking controller.
Sony showed:
Horizon: Zero Dawn was amazing and easily one of the best agmes shown at E3. That alone puts most of Microsoft's games to rest.
Uncharted 4: A Thief's End footage was great.
Like you I don't care about Shenmue III so it was meh.
I also don't care about FF VII R so it was meh.
The Last Guardian is intreresting to those who liked Ico and I am one of them. Its definitely interesting. Wh told you that its coming in 2017? Sony said its coming in 2016.
Dreams was meh.
RIGS could be good but I'll wait to see how it turns out.
As someone who doesn't give a shit about Shenmue III or FF VII R I think Sony won E3.
Amazon was a landslide victory for PS4 post E3... Over 2 PS4 way ahead of the first Xbox One and 2 before the second.

Fair enough. We all have opinions. I just posted mine and I'll respect yours. Don't think I was arrogant, though. Sorry if I came across that way.
*edit* I do care quite a bit about Shenmue III. I still own the first two and they were great in their day. Not very successful, though.
