Microsoft is going to market Tomb Raider for all their worth.

ya but they will be Marketing Fallout 4 which comes out the same day. Not to mention Halo 5 a few weeks before.
Honestly its seems they got the timed exclusive to market it too show volume. So they can say things like The XB1 the only place you can Play Halo 5, Forza 6, and Tomb Raider this holiday.

The worse Tomb Raider does, the more expensive it's going to be to get any exclusives in the future.
They can't let it flop. Tomb Raider's sales will be the benchmarks developers use in the future to negotiate such deals.

solid point. I think HW makes more of a difference in that regards, but I am sure when at the negotiation table it would be something people use to force MS to give them more and more.
Sony is getting closer and closer to reaching critical mass. They have a 50% marketshare, but if they can reach a point where they have 2X the user base of XB1 they can start convincing devs they want to consolodate their fan base on the PS4. I think JRPGs and other Japan focused games are already there, and to go along with your point I think the performance of Type-0 is a part of that.

It might explain why they ended the CoD deal. They went for Tomb Raider instead, a much more 'exclusive' deal and more worth money wise, in terms of CoD they have advertising deal plus DLC not an entire game.
Hmm, pie.

Tomb Raider (2013) and its DE sold a whopping 2.2 million (lifetime) on the XB1 and 360 combined. CoD sell 25 million + on all systems each year. I would argue that Marketing with timed exclusive content is more valueable on a massive franchise like CoD than TR.
Even with MS pushing the hell out of TR I cant see it selling more than 3.5 million on the Xbox family. Oh course it might be bundled to all hell so we may never know what it actually sold.

Yes, but it wasn't a game deal, only early DLC and advertising. Did the money paid make it worth while? Not everyone buys DLC. EDIT: You know what? It probably was. Even $5 of each copy of the 10million on Xbox is stupid loads of money.
I can't see it selling more than 1.5million (still as decent amount but it's limited due to platform). With the competition around it, the loss of PC and PS sales, SquEnix will be saying "It didn't sell as well as we expected." in January.

its on the 360 too. So its not that limited of a platform. 1.5 to 2 million LTD sounds about right to me for the XB1.

The treatment dragon age inquisition, evolve and witcher 3 got wasnt enough to make developers happy. Tomb raider marketing will get less focus than halo 5 and fallout 4. It will be lesser priotiry.

Did they state they were not happy?
I imagine they were not happy. I mean if a console the game was not even marketed for outsells the one it was by a wide margin and in some cases even has a higher attach rate they have to see a lost opportunity.
I honestly believe that the 360 owners that moved to the PS4 were the non-FPS fans. WRPGs used to do just as good or better on the 360 as the PS3 and now its not even close.
