Forums - Nintendo - The NX is confirmed to be a home console. (not that it needed any confirmation)

For those of you that think Nintendo is going to sit on its butt until 2017 or 2018 to release the Nx if the Wii u starts to fade fast I seriously doubt it. Word of mouth about this E3 is going to spread and less people are going to be buying Wii u. If they are losing money on it or not making any, why wait years more than necessary? Nx home console launching next year and maybe the handheld too (though it doesn't need it as much).

Looking at recent years

Wii
Reveal: E3 2005
Release: Nov 2006

3DS
Reveal: E3 2010
Release: Feb 2011

Wii U
Reveal: E3 2011
Release: Nov 2012

Has Nintendo ever fully revealed and then released a console in the same year? At least they haven't recently.

Historically this is how they've announced consoles.

But I wonder if a more effective way to release and garner interest may be:

Reveal: Spring 2016 (special direct)

Info Dump: E3 2016

Release: Nov 2016

Similar to how the PS4 and Xbox One were announced and released over the course of one year, I think between Wii U being announced and released the length of time was so great that people lost interest (alongside the other issues). If Nintendo bring the 18 month announce-release gap down to 8 or 9 months they can generate greater consumer interest.

that is fine, as long as 3rd party came along and have big AAA titles together with the launch.  if there isn't any 3rd party support at all, same case of the Wii U.  why would Nintendo gamers jump into NX on day 1?

it could really be 2016-2018 date range.  but Nintendo really need something big in order to gain trust of the Nintendo faithful and other gamers who haven't jump into the next gen consoles yet.  if NX is backwards compatible to the Wii U, then all Wii U games are playable but really needs the normal 3rd party games so that ps360 players can have both worlds.

I still don't think its coming in 2016. It will come in 2017, a year or two earlier than PS4 and X1's successors.

We won't see a new PlayStation or Xbox console till like 2020

You think this gen will be 7 years long like last gen? I don't. I remember AMD saying that they predict this gen to be shorter than the last one, so it will either be 5 or 6 years long.

I do think that NX is the next home console but I expect it to be launched in 2017.

Something that worries me a little bit though is that in this case, the console especification is already/almost done. This is pretty obvious because it's games are already in development. But, there's no enough time to bring HBM cost down or to put something like 16GB of memory or to use a decent GPU. So, again, the Nintendo console will probably be just a little stronger (if it'll be at all) than PS4.

Nintendo will aim for 1080p/60 as Sony and Microsoft will be aiming for 2k or 4k (you can find a 4K TV with good prices nowadays)

I know that they don't really need a powerful console to bring good games but it could help to win third partys again. So I'll be happy with a X86 architecture, a standard disc (cartridges would be cool though) and the same controllers we already have. They need to cut urgenlty expenses down

Hope you don't have to buy the games twice. If the next system is great, really don't think they care how many fans they will lose, more people people will buy it.

Nah, you'd only have to buy it once.

That second sentence is key. They will gain way more fans than the 2% they'll lose in the transition.

They literally brought up the NX in their Digital Event. Those who think they aren't moving on from the Wii U fast are in serious denial. 2016, guys. They're talking about it AND releasing it next year.

I think it's partly because Wii U is so weak that they can't unveil it just yet.

If they did what Iwata did at E3 2005 where he showed the Revolution base unit, it would take too much away from the Wii U which is already fragile enough.

I'm thinking they're fairly far along though to the point where game development is definitely underway for it.

I'm predicting next year. I also say the sooner the better, assuming that Nintendo is smart enough to not include some crazy add on like the Gamepad. They could have done the same thing with a controller with gyroscope controls included. That is where they really messed up. Anyway I'm predicting HBM and much more recent hardware.

I think that much is obvious. The moment they announced the melding of their handheld and hardware dividions, that was clear to me.

The second screen isn't going anywhere. Like, it's very obviously staying on the NX.
