The story doesn´t matter in a game like this one. This is a generic shooter set on Metroid universe because is the only way for the game to sell something. It has not a single key element from any main Metroid game ever done, only shooting aliens, when so many fans are expecting a real metroid (2D or 3D) this is just a punch in the face.

It has the Galactic Federation. "Killing aliens" is their sole purpose in Metroid canon. That most definitely is a key element from Metroid. At least, from the Prime spinoff trilogy, which is where this game takes place.

This isn't a punch in the face. This is a spin off game. If you think this is a generic shooter, you think all of Prime is generic shooting, because this is literally just Prime combat in a bubble. This doesn't play anything like other shooters because the combat and controls are nothing like real shooters. You aren't even aiming at anything, you're locking on, which is the whole point of being a "generic" shooter.

Some of the people in this thread have clearly never played a real shooter if they're comparing this to FPS games.

Call me back when COD has a lock-on button.

To be fair autoaim is sort of lock-on.....

Because z-targeting/l-targeting determines whether or not a game is in the "action" genre or the "action-adventure" genre?

Just watched the gameplay and i feel so bad for the director of the game. Its not his fault that nintendo didnt made a prime 4 yet. The game doesnt look that bad and playing 4 player shooter in metroid universe isnt a bad thing either. If this would be on wii u in hd graphics and with primes artstyle i would definitly buying this.
I think all the hate people dont keep in mind that this director may get fired because of this. It was his idea he told he had 10 years ago and finally he convinced nintendo to make it. Seems like this might be his last project. I wouldnt want to work in the gaming industry these days.

But it's completely different. Lock on completely locks your view point and movement grid so you are always facing the enemy and walking on a grid around them. Auto aim just redirects bullets when you aim in their direction. It's not even remotely the same.

That's like saying that Z-Targeting is the same as enemy sticking in top down action games like the Arkham games.

...What are you talking about? I never said it wasn't part of the FPS genre.

You seemingly implied it. "If they're comparing this to FPS games" implies that it isn't one and people shouldn't be comparing it to fps games.

No, I didn't imply it. I'd say the same about Portal. Portal is part of the FPS genre. Calling Portal a "generic shooter" would be stupid, and comparing Portal to FPS games would be stupid, because it clearly doesn't play like them, even though it's in the same genre.

What I said was that the game clearly doesn't play like regular FPS games and shouldn't be compared to them the way they are. Calling it a "generic shooter" or saying it has gameplay "like Halo" makes no sence, since it plays nothing like that. Someone who played 1,000 hours of COD or Battlefield would be a chicken without a head playing a game like this, because it controls and plays out completely different to those types of games.

Feel like the metroid name was an excuse for them to make a game that was otherwise generic looking.
