Forums - Nintendo - What will Nintendo do about this huge problem?

I don't want to derail the conversation too much, but it's not possible to simply burn a Wii game to a disc and put into a modified system and have it work. Wii discs are in the same format as GC discs, and are not the same as standard DVDs. Hell, the Wii doesn't even spin the discs in the same direction that a DVD players spins its discs.

The technology is no doubt similar, but you have to have a second work-around to actually play games on a Wii after you've gotten it modified (most likely a cable to connect to your pc, like with the GC).

Dude, I know what I'm talking about, wanna a Azureus screenshot??? Maybe a k3b one??? (I promisse I'll buy Zack and Wiki as soon as the police operation agains illegal imports stops, so I can import it for a decent price, cuz I'm not going to pay U$150 in a game I'm alread playing pirated).

Both WII and gamecube uses DVD-R, only the filesystem is diferent... and it is only a "logical problem", you can burn it using nero as a normal pirated DVD movie...

Well, Nintendo DID recently crack down on pirating by taking down a bunch of illegal factories, no?

Well, I don't like to give money or pirates either, but you don't need factorys to mod a WII, you can make the chip in the confort of your home programing a U$1,00 microcontroler. Just download the binary code from internet and follow a small how-to create your own chip.

Chichiri I'm sorry but I have no idea where you people get this crazy weird information...pirating on Wii is just as easy as you described. Shoot it's easier than back in the day when I was swapping PS1 games timing that was hard.

Not really. If you do your risking the law.

In jail:
mass murder, bomber, identity theft, grand theft auto, kidnapping oprea, rapist: Hey what you in for?
18 year old geek: I stole halo 3.
mass murder, bomber, identity theft, grand theft auto, kidnapping oprea: ....Get on the floor! *anel rape *

....360 hacks aren't popular? They cracked the 360 within a month, despite MSFT saying it will be uncrackable... 360 pirating is just as easy as Wii. And you're asking why PS3? Obviously the BR game size... So yes pirating on PS3 is impossible as of now, BR was Sony's defense against it.

It's not impossible for most games so far at all--PS3 multiplat games can't be bigger than 10 gigs. Also, the people who dl these games are going to have large hard drives, no doubt about it.  Since PS3 supports external drives, the size of BR discs is not an issue in this case.

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

As a general rule, as long as a system requires a hardware modification there is a cap on the percentage of people who will pirate games for it ...

Most people are not comfortable with opening a $100+ electronic device to modify it, and people generally don't trust someone who is selling them a device which has an "illegal" modification (the modification may or may not be legal in various countries, but most people see it as questionable regardless).

There's hackers every where, even in mine country.

You can hack and mod any game for any system and that will never ever be stopped. The most popular systems get the most hacks, because a larger install base will have more modders and hackers.

@ChichiriMuyo, you use regular old DVD+R's for Wii hacks. You can burn Wii games or GameCube games to a regular DVD+R and play it on any modded Wii.

Really...why just Nintendo? Microsoft and Sony have to deal with the same dilemma. I give tons of money to Nintendo. I've purchased every system they have released (Handheld and console) and so far I have purchased 15+ Wii games and 15+ DS games. I do however own an R4 for trying out all the games I dont want to fork over the cash for an Im a huge import guy. I know that handhelds are region free, but I dont feel like spending $50 for a DS game. On the other hand, if it is a great game, I'll go out and buy it. (I also use R4 for homebrew projects)

Why the hell are you saying that, your promoting piracy. Unless your one of the pigs yourself.

Just correcting an inaccurate statement. Piracy will never be stopped. Look at .mp3s. If it's digital, somebody's stealing it. I'm not saying these companies should just give up. I'm just saying it's an uphill battle that will last forever and they need to find a way to maximize pirate-stopping while cutting down the money they spend on pirate-stopping.

I'm wondering if they can sneak a required update into certain titles that negate any hacks on the system. I noticed the update on SSBB, why not do that with other big first party releases. Maybe even do it in a way that will transfer over if the game is burned or downloaded. I dunno if there is a way to do that but if it's possible that may be the way to go.
