What begins?

You know Sony, there are other ways to gauge interest than Kickstarter.

yes, but people when its time to ask (specialy on the internet), everybody is IN, when the thing finaly arrives, lots look away and whistle, in kickstarter is "put your money where your mouth is" this is real demand...

i have no problem with this, no one is pointing a gun at ones head.

Proudest Platinums - BF: Bad Company, Killzone 2 , Battlefield 3 and GTA4

Tenchu or shinobido. There are no other games like those two and Sony have been really close to From Software recently.

A new Tenchu with online ideas from the souls series would be awesome.

there is potential for abuse but this is actually exactly what kickstarter was intended to do.

shenmue was dead. deader than dead really. it's been 14 years. the last game was a financial disaster. the IP is owned by a company that isn't doing great and focusing on mobile mostly. shenmue would have never happened without kickstarter and that's exactly what kickstarter is for,.. to get a project started via crowdfunding when the no suits anywhere are willing to make the investment.

the kickstarter investors get the game for half price, the project is actually moving forward. win/win.

This still has the potential to happen. Yes it reached it's funding goals. but not everybody just donated to the $29 tier, and not everyone is also going to choose the PS4 version since it only shows that version as a digital release, and the PC version instead releasing as the physical version.

Looking at the number of backers is another way to look at preorder numbers, while offering some of the worse stretch goals at the amount donated.

$120 for one of 4 capsule toys in the game?

I still think it has a chance to do well, by being a $29 game instead of full price might cause more people to give it a try early on.

If this was a full price game, how well do you think it would do?

that now instead of people using kickstarter to get funding for a game to be made its going to now be getting funding so sony will fund this game

lol, you know what didn't just begin?  People not following the conversation.  Sega agreed to allow Yu to take Shenmue III to kickstarter, this was independant of Sony.  Sony may have made a deal with Yu regarding funding after passing the initial goal on Kickstarter, but kickstarter was all Yu and Sega.  This, of course, is per Shu Yoshida, but he's on record as having said that...so.  Until someone involved refutes that, your angst is misplaced.

Plus, are you honestly suggesting that Kickstarter won't continue to be used for kickstarting a new game AND for situations such as Shenmue III?

Legend of Dragoon Sony. Legend of Dragoon.

Thanks jlmurph!

So you missed the part where he said Yu and Sega had worked out a deal to kickstart it, prior to any Sony involvement, I'm guessing?

I'm sure that's being ignored. Its more juicer when theres a bad guy in place xD
