Shooters are everywhere, they're announced all the time, every publisher makes shooters and my god are they getting boring (for me).

I've never been a huge first person shooting fan, third person shooters I can handle more but they really aren't that satisfying unless there's A LOT more going on. Far Cry 3/4 are great examples of this. The best use of a first person shooter for me are strategy games, i'm super looking forward to Rainbow Six Siege for example because me and my friend gets super engrossed in strategic style game play. We love spec ops in the COD series.

A big eye opener was the new Doom game, I was watching it and the crowd was cheering wildy at certain parts and I was just confused as to why.. there are other genre's I don't appreciate but I understand what's great and why people like it. But sawing an alien in half isn't hardly a standing applause moment?

Things seem to be changing, the top 10 metacritics on both PS4 and XB1 do not feature a single FPS.

Now we've got the super hyped up games like TLG, FF7 and Shenmue 3 neither are shooting games. Everyone's talking about Horizon and Uncharted 4 (it's not a shooting game, it's an action adventure game where you have to shoot) as COD slips away, people are getting less into Halo (but it's still going strong) and the reception to Gears 4 hasn't been outstanding although generally positive.

Souls games are massive, Fallout is back, Arkham Knight is coming, and the Witcher was huge. Racing games are coming back and SFV may hopefully put fighting games back on the market and maybe the new rhythm games may catch fire again.

There's a while to go but do you think the shooter space will shrink as other genres become bigger?

Shooters aren't going anywhere. None of the other types of games you're talking about ever left or lost prominence.

I'm not saying they're going anywhere, I'm saying the huge percentage of games being shooters will fall as the years go by.

The ratio is the same as it was five years ago. If anything, it's getting higher.

Once there is a market for shooters they will always be made. And there will always be a market for them.

Nope. Instead shooters will evolve and include rpg elements. Open world elements. Storytelling elements. There are just too many genres that shooters can take from. It will never die. I'm afraid we'll be stuck with shooters until the entire gaming scene crashes.

They don't need to die, they need to go back to their 90s roots with non-linear maps and exploration.

Call of Duty slipping away?

It will still be the top selling console game each year for years to come.

Current gaming platforms - Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, New 3DS, PC

Nah, shooters are here to say.

They're a definitive genre of gaming, like it or not.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Unless a GTA comes out that year.
